North American 767 At DFW

Sun Jun 25, 2006 3:42 am

I saw a North American B767 at the AA maintanance hanger today. Does anyone know why? I think North American only flies military charters from DFW. Is that correct? Thanks.

It is at the AA hanger for maintenance. Some type of avionics problem. Yes, the NA B-767-300ER is only used for military charters to/from DFW.

NAO 761 (B763) is scheduled to depart DFW today at 1850 for Whidbey Island NAS, WA. Scheduled arrival at KNUW is 2037L this evening.

Doesn't AA do all their own mx in-house and also some for outside operators like NA?

North American does charters in and out of DFW all the time. I've seen their 767s parked at the low D gates on several occasions. They probably just ferried the plane over the AA's maintenance hangar across the runway because AA is pretty much the only company at DFW capable of fixing just about any major non-overhaul problem a 767 would have there.

Yep, they're over at D all the time.

Yes. AA is now the only major U.S. airline that still does 100% of its aircraft overhauls in-house, and the company is also increasingly trying to win business from outside customers (mostly airlines and leasing companies). American has had some limited success, winning contracts with, among others, Avianca, Hawaiian, USAirways, and Air Canada for anything from limited, one-time modification work up to heavy overhauls.
