Who/What Is "Continental Airlines Eds"

Sun Jun 25, 2006 11:25 am

So I was reading through my new copy of the Yellow Pages tonight -- wait, don't laugh* --

Under the "Airlines Heading" I spotted the entry:

Continental Airlines EDS
1375 E 9 St...................................216-583-xxxx

And couldn't help but wonder what "EDS" is, especially since CO closed the Cleveland CTO shortly before I moved out here.

The address is One Cleveland Center, one of Cleveland's bigger office buildings...and just about as far away from the airport as you can get while remaining downtown.

I can't help but wonder what this is...especially since it's the only listing in the Yellow Pages with a local address other than "Cleveland Hopkins International Airport"

So...anyone have an answer?

Thanks,

Lincoln

Call the number and see who (or what) picks up. It's the only way you'll know for sure!

Yeah... Tried that, I let it ring 5 times and then hung up without anything answering. You would expect, at least a $10 answering machine or something... Makes me want to know what it is even more  Wink

Also googiling "Continental Airlines EDS" didn't turn up anything useful for me.

EDS is Electronic Data Systems founded by Ross Perot.
CO uses EDS for a host of computer applications including reservations and flight planning.

A guess that's a logical enough answer. It just seems strange to me that if this is the answer to my question that someone would pay for the yellowpages entry "Continental Airlines EDS" for /that/.

They're actually a bit more entrenched in the organization than that. Lots of large companies, including CO, outsource some or all of the IT side of their business to a 3rd party, usually to reduce costs. CO has outsourced most things to EDS and as a result it would actually be EDS staff in many locations, not CO. This is probably a Continental facility that has been outsourced to EDS, or it's the central EDS program office for CO - either would make sense.
