Another AA New Business Class Photo

Tue Jun 27, 2006 9:44 am

The new cabin looks great...it looks like a 777! But the new seats look odd to me...I think they could have picked a better seat.

The cabin is considerably more attractive than I had anticipated, based on the previous and controversial photo. I'm especially pleased to see that they chose the Signature Interior-style pivot bins for the outboard storage, rather than just putting a curved door on the existing structure. Does anyone know for sure if this is the Heath-Tecna upgrade package?

Uhhmmm, I was on an AA 763 twice in the last couple of days. Both had the old seats, one had the new cabin interior and the other the old exterior. BTW, the old seats "look" more comfortable than the new ones.

For reference:

Sorry, whilst i appreciate that the seat may be confortable, the whole cabin still looks drab and is crying out for a bit of freshness and brighter colours....basically it looks very boring!

I have no doubt the seats are great. But the pitch seems kinda short. The cabin looks cramped to me. A guy that measures 6ft 2 like me probably will not be that comfortable. Then again, it may be the perspective from the pictures.

They didn't just upgrade the 763s to new look. Some of the aircraft (the newer ones that came from an order to replace the TW ones that were not taken up) were bought relatively recently and feature the 777 style interior.

In my view, the cabin looks cramped and the colours are drab. Hopefully it's just an illusion.

Actually, the one 763 that is flying with the new business seat used to have the old interior (bins, sidewalls, etc.)

When it got the new seats, they renovated the interior fixtures as well so that the cabin more closely matches that of the new batch of 763s.

I've never found AA's buisness class product to be overly attractive... but hey, its all a matter of opinion ^^

It's interesting to note, I think, that AA chose the gray seat covers over the usual dark blue to help brighten the cabin... and we get comments on here about the cabin being "drab." I personally would have preferred to keep the dark blue. Whatever we think of the new seat, I am sure everyone agrees it's an improvement over the old cabin.

A side note: There are eight aircraft that were delivered in 2003 that feature the new 777-style interior throughout the aircraft. All 763s will get the new interior when the biz class seats are replaced starting in September. Only one 763 (tail #396) has been equipped with the new seat/interior. The idea is to fly the aircraft around the system for the summer and get flight attendant and passenger feedback. Full conversion will begin in September and be complete by January 2007. Also, the new 777-style interior is only being installed through the twilight zone. The rest of main cabin (aft of the old j-class galley) will remain as-is.

Congrats to AA on the upgrade! In spite of all the "criticism" on this board, I think they did a great job.

My company won't pay for business class travel, but at least I can enjoy the twilight zone! So, the bathrooms just aft of row 13 have been removed in ship #396? Is there a bulkhead there now? What happened to row 17, which was used for crew rest?

Why are the leaving the back of the bird in the old 70's style 767 bins?

Stupid middle of the road upgrade IMHO

No, the lavs that were removed are aft of the last row in Main Cabin (center) behind "C", "E", "G" seats. The mid-lavs behing twilight zone are still there. No changes were made to crew rest areas/location, they remain as usual.

Thanks, PRAirbus -- that makes more sense. I should have checked AA.com before asking; they have the new seat layout at http://www.aa.com/content/aboutUs/ourPlanes/boeing7632classnew.jhtml

Too bad they didn't put a few more power ports on the twilight zone

Man it would suck to sit on 44E!!!  Smile

It looks cheap.

Definitely not cutting edge when it comes to ergonomics or design. It looks very basic. American, frankly, is one of the worst airlines at the moment, in terms of service. This should do little to change that image.

Which explains, of course, why it received an overall satisfaction rating that was identical to your namesake in the J.D. Power and Associates' 2005 survey of airline customers. AA and CO also managed to receive identical ratings in Flight Crew and In-Flight Amenities, the two portions of the survey that pertain to service.

I guess we can place Continental down there at the bottom of the world, right with American, huh ContinentalEWR?

Or, possibly, things aren't as bad as you make them out to be.

American is also one of the better airlines right now financially. They are very conservative about spending money, that is what has made them the only major never to file for bk.

I'm a NW guy normally.....by I admit AA & CO are about equally superior, and both offer a much better product than NW. AA is far from the worst.

I never thought I would ever feel this way, but if I were traveling internationally now, I would certainly choose a foreign carrier over a domestic airline. Having flown since the middle of the last century, it seems that our home carriers are lousy and are merely busses in the sky (no pun intended).

Reputations are important. Apparently, management of United States based carriers don't really care anymore. These feelings are reflected everywhere you turn in the US carriers' employees' attitude.

Don't flame me! The World feels this way about the US (per opinions voiced here on a.net).

It's a very sorry state from the country that showed the world that man can fly........

If anyone wants to read an interesting article about the Domestic premium travel cabins and the Int'l premium cabins/the reasons for lack of innovation-I would suggest this month's Conde Nast Traveler magazine, they have interviews with US' VP for aircraft interiors, and some other people of note as well...

Quite a shoddy attempt at business class in comparison to their competitors. I fly BA Club across the pond and this photo just reinforces my thought that, once again, US airlines are behind the ball.

Just my $0.02.

6 abreast in a 763?
For business class I feel this to be quite cramped!

Is this standard?
Flew C-Class in an AC 763 few years back from YYZ to MUC and it was definitely 5 abreast.

Although I don't travel a lot anymore, and certainly can't afford J or F Class, on the basis of those photos alone, I would definitely not choose American. The seats look like the old ones that AC is taking out of their A320 Executive Class, only the AC ones on the narrow body - domestic - are wider! If I had no other choice than American, I would waste neither FF miles nor $$ to upgrade, the whole cabin looks very claustrophobic. The way the seats are designed, each seat behind has a kind of bulkhead into which you would be staring the whole time. Also note how narrow the armrests are, and how close together each pair of seats is. I can't imagine you could actually lie competely flat, seeing the pictures of the old cabin, I would take the old any day. Just my opinion based only on these photos and a previous posting as well, only flew American once and that was over 10 years ago from YVR to DFW, was in F and the service was totally unimaginative and almost identical to DL in it's "skimpiness" - and that was during the so-called better times!
