Are There Any Domestic LCCs In Turkey?

Wed Jun 28, 2006 12:57 pm

A large country in area, well-populated and a sizeable middle class---seems like prime territory for an LCC. Are there any serving the Turkish domestic market?

The Turkish aviation scene has been quite colorfull since the 80s, and one of the more active one amongst developing countries.

There are multiple carriers that operate domestic services in Turkey. Some are recently formed LCCs while others have morphed from longer established charter carriers.

A few of the larger ones include:

Thanks for the info!!

I had no idea there were so many. Of the other European LCCs, do any other than Easy Jet fly into Istanbul? I looked through some websites and while Air Berlin seems to fly to some coastal cities, only Easy Jet goes into Istanbul. Would FR ever consider going into that market?

German Wings serves several Turkish cities including Istanbul.

It has been a little harder for the European LCCs to serve Turkey as its outside the EU and the LCC services must conform to bilateral agreements which for the most part are being fully used up by the larger mainline carriers.

As far as Ryanair, given the opportunity I'm sure Turkey is a market it would be keen to serve.
