UAL 225 IAD-SFO - New East/west Red-eye

Wed Jun 28, 2006 2:50 pm

just noticed on flight aware that UA 225, the 9:30pm departure from IAD to SFO has been running incredibly late recently. Tonight it didn't leave until 1:24am EST, arriving SFO at 3:30am PST. Looks like several days ago on June 23 it was even later, arriving SFO at 5:24am. June 22nd's timing is similar to tonight's. On UA's website, it claims "ramp service" caused the delay this evening. Can anyone give more info? Or is this just the end of the domino from a days worth of bad weather sitting over the mid-atlantic.

I mention the "east/west" red-eye as the June 22nd flight comes close to the timing of that ill-fated flight in Airport 75.

Hmmm, I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the whole MidAtlantic East Coast has seen tropical storm like weather for the last few days...Not to mention extensive GDP's for all flights crossing Eastbound into ZOB, and all flights crossing Northbound into ZDC...nah, that couldn't be it.  Smile

UA's website (and Apollo for that matter) always show the reason for delay as whatever department took more time than the MST (minimum service time). So if a flight has a 36 minute MST (like Ted flights) and it takes 37 minutes to turn it and the ramp was the department charged with the extra minute, the website will reflect a ramp service delay even though the flight was delayed 4 hours waiting on inbound equipment.

Flyswim: I think it would have something to do with the weather. I flew AirTran yesterday and ATl was a mess with delayed flights from the weather on the east coast. With UA having a hub in the middle of it, you can only imagine the mess.

I did often wonder what it meant by 'Delayed due to ramp service' and now I know, thanks!!

1:24am EST, arriving SFO at 3:30am PST

Hey, it is Daylight time. EDT/PDT. Just being anal here, but accuracy seems to be a severely falling attribute in the world these days.
