Help! - Unknown 767

Wed Jun 21, 2000 3:55 am

Hopefully somebody can shed some light on this one:

I was driving past Boeing Field Sunday morning, and as custom whenever I do, I tried to look at every plane I could see. But this time, one kept my attention. A 767-200 was parked on the East side (across from the Delivery Center) and I have no idea who the operator was. The overall paint scheme was a light tan/creme color, with a very fat dark green cheatline running from the nose to the h. stabilizer, where it turned and ran up the tail. The tail had an emblem on it that featured many circles and semi-circles, but was otherwise uncipherable driving past at 70 mph! There were no fuselage titles that I could see, although there might have been some that I didn't. I was still parked there on my way home late Mon. night.

Anyone know who owns this plane?? Please help a curious enthusiast.

Hi Mike!! I'm not sure if I know this one. There are not many private 767s around. Two are with Abu Dhabi Amiri Royal flight and they don't really look like that. There's also two on Saudi Arabia; one with Mid East Jet and the other one with Kingdom Holding. There's another one flying for the Sultan of Brunei. The most likely ones would be the Sultan's flight (767-200ER) and KingdomHolding (767-300ER). The Kingdom Holding has a stylized crown on the tail, I believe. It could also be something new or someone I have never heard of.....The777Man

It might be the the first 767-200 ever built, owned by Boeing, what do you think?

Blue Scandinavia have been operating as Britannia Airways AB for a couple of years now and all their aircraft wear the Britannia livery. They never flew the 767, just the 757 and L1011!

Keep trying - my money would be on the aircraft being an exec - they often have a livery but no titles.

The first 767 was converted into a some kind of special ops aircraft for the U. S. military. So this mystery 767 can't be the first 767 built, I could be wrong.

This aircraft definitely sounds like the colour scheme for Kingdom Establishment/United Saudi Bank. A photo of a -300 (ex-Gulf Air) belonging to them is in the Nov 99 issue of Airliner World(page 10)

Guys,

Thanks for the replies so far, but none sound right. It was DEFINTELY a -200, as I made sure to check the emergency exits. Believe me, living just north of Everett, I can easily tell Boeing's aircraft apart. The more I think about it, the more I'm positive there were not titles on the fuselage. Also, definitely not the first 767, as that plane was sitting as the south end of the field as always. It certainly could have been Kingdom Holding, but only if they've boughten a -200, because it wasn't their -300.

Again, thanks for the replies so far.

VIP 767s usually have less emergency exits than regular airline aircraft. Maybe you could ask someone at Boeing or check the registration and that may give a clue. Maybe it's a brand new VIP 767? The777Man

Is this the plane you saw?

If so it is a 767-300 even though it kind of looks like a -200. If you look carefully you will see another cabin door just ahead of the wing. It is not outlined like the others since it is probably sealed and not used. Since the plane does not carry that many passengers, the extra doors are not needed.

THANK YOU!!!

Yes, that was definitely the paint scheme! However, I'm still not convinced it was a 767-300. If it was, I was alot more sleepy than I thought. But I'm almost 100% positive it was a -200. I guess I'm just going to have to drive back down there and hope it's still there to make sure.

Whadya think, Sea_Tac2000? Should we try and get a closer look at her before she leaves? I'm driving to Salem, Or. Saturday morning, so I'll stop by and see if it's still there.

Again, THANK YOU, Flygga!!!

Also, thank you all for your help!

You know, to tell you the truth the first time I spotted it and only got a quick glimpse, I thought it was a -200 also. Having the middle door blocked off really throws you off.
