Assistance On Idnetifying An Aircraft Into MAN

Thu Jun 29, 2006 2:17 am

At around 16.30 today my dad saw a large jet approachng Manchester, now he swears it was the A380 though i think it is unlikely, Can anyone give me some assistance as to what it was?

Reminds me when I made a post about a very large 4-engine plane circling over downtown Pittsburgh a while back, and someone asked me:

What kind of wing was it?
High wing or low wing?
T-tail or not?...

My thoughts too demoose but my dad swears blindly it was low winged and had the airbus livery. He described it as looking like a chubby DC-8 if thats any help to anyone. I'm going with the antonov too at the moment however, it was my first thought when he said he'd seen the A380, just wanted to make sure.

It was indeed the AN124 - came to MAN to collect two Merlees (if that's how you spell it) engines to take to Melbourne.

I arrived 5 minutes too late and it was due to depart at 20:20 but was still there about 9pm Sad

I left work at 23:10, it was looking like it was ready to go.

Got some pictures on my phone.

Sorry they are poor quality but was in a rush, and taken on my phone
