Finnair's Last MD-80 Flight On 3rd Of July

Thu Jun 29, 2006 5:26 am

According to Finnish papers the 3rd of July will be the last day for Finnair's MD-80 serie planes.
Anyone knows which will be the route for the last flight?
After that Finnair's narrow body fleet will be all Airbus and Embraer.

Well, as a tax payer I am happy they have managed to make some money. They hit Asia the right time, their CEO said they could grow even faster if they could get the right kind of wide bodies quick enough and if HEL could expand faster. As a Finnish traveller I am happy SAS/Blue1 especially keeps them busy in Finland/Europe, and more competition welcome.

Micke, don't despair yet. Many of the old AY MD-80s will soldier on with the 100% Finnair subsidiary LCC FlyNordic in your native country.

At least for scheduled routes, that is. AY will still have the B757's for charter services.
AY and ANA rock!

I have flown with Finnair's MD-80 planes four times. In February 1987, from Helsinki to Eilat-Ovda to Helsinki (a charter, operated by Kar-Air flight number!) and in June 1990 from Helsinki to Warsaw-Okecie to Helsinki. I think it was called "DC-9 Super 82" back then.

I think Finnair allowed smoking in the plane in the 1980's but I was seated in front of the plane so it didn't matter much to me.

I read somewhere that it would be HEL to ARN - which seems quite logical because many of the MD80s have gone to Flynordic.

No, the last flight is HEL-ARN-HEL. The plane may eventually be going to FlyNordic for all I know, but it's not just suddenly staying in Sweden after a regular flight.

Seems I always want to forget those AY's "holiday flights" on B757... not my favourite really, actually whats the seat pitch? Killing 29"? Happy holidays!  Smile

I flew HEL-LED and return in June 2004 on MD80's and the aircraft were in exceptional condition. Sad to see them go, A wonderful plane.
I thought I was wrong but I was only joking!
