Jet Blue To MIA?

Thu Jun 29, 2006 11:25 pm

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I couldn't find anything in the search, but I was searching through Wikipedia and found under jet Blue this:

# Daily nonstop service between Miami, Florida and Boston, MA starts December 14, 2006.
# Daily nonstop service between Miami, Florida and Newark starts December 14, 2006.
# Daily nonstop service between Miami, Florida and San Juan starts December 19, 2006.
# Daily nonstop service between Miami, Florida and Aguadilla starts December 19, 2006.
# Daily nonstop service between Miami, Florida and San Diego starts January 10, 2007.
# Daily nonstop service between Miami, Florida and Oakland starts January 10, 2007.
# Daily nonstop service between Miami, Florida and Burbank starts January 10, 2007.
# Daily nonstop service between Miami, Florida and Phoenix starts January 10, 2007.
Daily nonstop service between New York, NY/JFK and Miami, Florida starts December 14, 2006.

I couldn't find anything on jet Blue's site about new flights to MIA.

Any idea if Wikipedia has MIA mixed with FLL?

as this could be a possibility...but aren't we very tight on gate space in FLL as it is? (havn't flown into FLL for almost 2 yrs so i'm not sure)

here's to hoping!  Smile especially since MIA has been in the rumor mill for who knows how long...

My least favorite airport and city on the face of the earth, though if there is money to be made, more power to them.

Well, it's impossible for MIA to be mixed with FLL because many of those routes already exist from FLL....that list says for service starting.

I have heard MIA rumored, even after jetBlue said they like FLL and don't want MIA...but I guess they want to give consumers another choie other than AA now. Also, gates are limited for them at FLL. If they do add MIA, I doubt they would kick it off with so many new routes at once.

Also, keep in mind that Wikipedia is the WORST source for anything on the internet! As it is edited by users, but you never know...

I'm sure some random person just decided to add that info to spark controversy. However, I'm not seeing it on the site as of now, so it was probably deleted by someone else.

However, those routes look pretty realistic if you ask me...who knows?

Most likely just someone messing around. However, the routes they mentioned look amazingly plausable.

jetBlue to MIA has been rumoured for years, literally, and it was close to happening last fall with Newark. What has been slowing jetBlue down isn't MIA's fees (which are lower than JFK, LGA, Newark, Boston, Seattle, and Denver). It is what to do at FLL. There is a never-ending saga at FLL where jetBlue is seemingly promissed more gates by airport officials, and then they don't get them. jetBlue isn't sure what to do at MIA - make it another spoke or highlight it orange on their route map, and there has been huge internal debate on what do and how AA will react (and, for the record, I've been told Neelman is very pro-MIA service). While the chance is 99.99% that the routes put up on Wikipedia are just someone pulling our leg, you can't help but think that it sounds like a perfect way to launch MIA. I can only hope.

I was waiting to hear what your viewpoint on this would be.....and I too have heard that FLL keeps promising JetBlue more gates and better facilities (no one can ever give me details, however.....like which terminal and how many gates).

I must ask, why is JetBlue's approach to either: expand at FLL OR add MIA to their route system.......why are they not doing both? Although MIA and FLL are close to eachother, many carriers serve both airports successfully. There is some overlap in the market, but MIA is far more convenient for pax residing in South Dade and some of the western suburbs, not to mention downtown MIA itself.

The thing is that if jetBlue can't expand at FLL, they want to expand at MIA. They don't want to get into MIA until they know the situation at FLL, because then they will know how to launch MIA (with a few routes like BOS or with one or two like most new cities). Also, another thing that can delay them: MIA is working on a plan to lower rates for airlines that use the outdated Concourse G and F. The rates will go into effect February 2007 when most of the airlines using the currently crowded terminal go to Concourse H and J. jetBlue will literally get to have a concourse almost to themselves if they wanted. jetBlue will go to MIA in due time, albeit they will tread carefully. Neelman has mentioned MIA many times and is one of the biggest supporters of flying to the airport. I think they could do great with a focus city operation, but there is no doubt that is a risky move that they need to plan with caution.

Also, for those who would like to see MIA (or any other city) on jetBlue's route map, you see that "tell us where to fly" link under their route map? Tell them. jetBlue takes that feature very seriously. While they obviously are not going to launch a city just because 40,000 people write "fly to Billings, Montana", they do use it to give cities they are strongly considering that extra "boost" to go ahead with launching it.

Anyone can post anything to wikipedia. It might even be someone testing to see how long it would take for someone to post a thread about it here.

Well, Neeleman has stated that he does watch the boards!

And to prove that anyone can add anything...I just posted this
Daily Nonstop Service between New York, NY/JFK and Atlanta, GA starts November 17, 2006
AGAIN THAT IS NOT TRUE, however, I am proving the point above:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_Blue_Airways
And apperently someone just took mine and the ACY ones down as well...
and even MIA is gone now

Very interesting. This tells me that the originating posts dates on Wikipedia are either made up, or B6 is ok with launching service and then moving... Most likely they'll launch service after they get gates and have fixed them up. Can you quantify the number of gates MIA will have available in February in G and F?

MIA has been very interested in attracting LCC's. While MIA has its ups and downs, the reality is that B6 could make money off of more FLL or MIA gates. But to commit to MIA isn't trivial...

Yet the E190 could cover most of B6's cities from MIA...  scratchchin  (obviously not the west coast cities, but rather the east of the Mississippi cities and Texas).

As much as I like B6, the amount of attention they get for new cities is amazing... I hope on July 25th they have some good earnings news.

Wow it does come up in Wikipedia. I hope the MIA-OAK route does start. They already have OAK-FLL and it's doing good. Maybe Jetblue should start OAK-MCO. An OAK-MIA route would give American competition, I guess this route will start after the T2 extension is done and some gates free up at OAK. I heard that the city of Oakland loves Jetblue, I hear that OAK might be a fuel center for B6 in the near future.

Well....... This is very interesting. I guess MIA and ACY are next. Usually cities that start in December they will announces in July so look out soon I guess. This is very wierd. Because the cities seem realistic and the dates too. A good stagger to them. Also ACY seems kind of realistic to. Something is up....

I really don't think so. If anything, I think someone's just pulling our leg. Anyone can edit the information on Wikipedia.

Now watch...those cities are announced next week. I'd look like a fool  Wink

Lol that would be pretty funny. I once was posting in a thread and I was saying how they won't end SDQ service and the next post was confirming the route was to be discontinued. It happens...and I hope these routes are announced though.

Now they have this one listed under jetBlue on Wikipedia:

All you have to do is go back and delete the info. I've been doing it because I don't want people to think that this information is true. Whoever is doing such things is quite annoying and is ruining a source that is trying to provide accurate information. It's outstanding to see how accurate most of the facts are, but throwing in random routes is just bad humor if you ask me.
