AA And Baggage Claim Issues

Thu Jun 29, 2006 11:54 pm

Hi all!

I don't normally post but I'm bored at work and was wondering about an issue I have with AA.

I flew AA for my first time in March from EWR-MIA-EWR. In both MIA and EWR it took at least 45 minutes to get our bags, MIA taking almost an hour. I thought it was a bit ridiculous but got over it. Last week I flew them again LGA-MCO-LGA. When we arrived in MCO it took about an hour and twenty minutes to get our bag. This time it ticked me off. The flight from SJU arrived at the same time and was on the same belt as ours. All of their bags were off loaded before we even saw any of ours and then it was speradic at first. My return to LGA was slightly better. We only waited 30 minutes. I'm not used to this. I fly CO 95% of the time and I always have my bags within 15 minutes. The EWR flight that arrived 20 minutes after ours had their bag half hour before I had mine.

Other then the baggae issues the service was quite good. I will definitly use AA a lot more if they take care of this baggage issue.

Sorry to vent. I was just wondering if anyone else had similar expieriences.

Have a good day!

No, I cannot remember ever waiting that long for bags, at MCO specifically or anywhere else.

I also fly Continental the majority of the time but recently I flew LGA-TPA-LGA on AA. We sat at the baggage claim for 1 hour. After sitting for fifteen minutes we were given an announcement that our bags would be arriving on a different belt. Unfortunately AA messed up again and all the bags on that belt were from MCO. We sat at that belt for a half hour until I asked the AA baggage agent where our bags were. She did not speak english, and only told me that the bags were comming. Finally our bags arrived on the original belt that we were told to go to. Considering the main terminal at LGA is extremely small it should not take 1 hour to recieve our luggage. At DEN it only takes 15 minutes and those bags have to travel a pretty far distance.

AA has at least four or five baggage carousels at MCO. Only two were being used. There is no reason they could not have used another belt. The only reason that would not be possible that I can think of is due to lack of staffing, but in that case that is a really poor move on AA's part. As I said over all I was very impressed with AA. The gentlemen at the gate went out of his way to move my bf and I to the A/B side of the MD-80 on the return even though the flight was completly packed and late. Very friendly and proffesional people all around. The baggage handling needs work though.

At EWR yes. My plane got in at 12pm from DFW, an AA flight from SJU (a bigger plane) came in at 12:20pm, well the last bag from SJU flight was on the carousel before the first bag from my DFW flight came on the carousel. It eventually took 40 mins before my bag came on.

MIA internationally arriving was horrific. We waited close to an hour before our bags came.
Go big or go home

My arrivals into EWR and LGA were both around midnight. EWR definitly didn't have much going on.

I had that problem a couple of times at DFW. You can often see your plane through the glass windows while waiting at baggage claim. More than once our plane would land, unload, board new pax, and push back while we were still waiting in baggage claim. Why it takes 30-60 minutes for the bags to travel 300 feet is beyond me...

Well I guess I should be gratefull for that. I mean why should I expect to get my bags? I should be happy that they even offered to take them for me at check-in.  cloudnine

My wait for checked luggage on AA at DFW has never been exactly short, but it seems to be gettin longer and longer... very frustrating.

Likely the reason was no manpower. Airlines are having a real problem this summer and in general hiring people. Low wages, hard work, rigorous background checks, drug tests all add up to people taking a better paying job at Starbucks and even Walmart. People call in sick or bodies just don't exist to do the work and the result is long waits and delays.

I've flown United the past week an it's obvious they're working very short....and when flights cancel...as they have a lot this week....it gets ugly. Lines have been ugly.
