Past And Future Services At SAF

Fri Jun 30, 2006 2:05 am

Does anyone have a list of past services at Santa Fe (SAF)? I heard somewhere there used to be service to PHX. Currently, there is only service to DEN on Great Lakes Airlines. With the growth at ABQ, perhaps more airlines could start serving SAF to reduce overcrowding at ABQ. I think Delta/SkyWest should start CRJ services to SLC in the future, and Southwest should start service to PHX and DAL. For comparison, Long Beach Municipal Airport was once barely served, but JetBlue built a focus city there.

Mesa operating as America West Express used to fly nonstop to PHX from SAF.
Also, Texas International used to offer Convair and DC-9 flights from SAF to: ABQ 2x Su-Fr, 1x Sa 1 CVR ,1 DC9
Clovis 1x Su-Fr CVR
MAF 1x Mo-Sa DC9
This was July 1970. Time scheduled SAF-ABQ was 20 minutes, both a/c.
Pioneer Airlines also used to fly Metros DEN-SAF as well. I think some might have stopped at Pueblo,CO as well.

And I think Lone Star or someone tried SAF-DFW for a time, too.

This was back in the 1999/2000 time frame, and it was flown with Beech 1900s.

I don't really see a point in future SAF-ABQ flights, due to the Rail Runner Express. I personally think that SAF should become an alternate airport to ABQ in the future. It would be more convienient for those living in Santa Fe.

If SAF were to expand services, they should consider changing their name to Santa Fe International Airport or Santa Fe Regional Airport. "Municipal Airport" suggests that it is a general aviation-only airport. Heck, LRU in Las Cruces is named Las Cruces International Airport, yet has NO commercial air service.
