Weird Plane At JFK This Morning

Fri Jun 30, 2006 8:49 am

I was driving to Terminal 6 at JFK around 8-8:15 AM this morning...Looking out towards Terminal 7 I saw this very weird looking aircraft. I only caught a glimpse of it for literally a second or two but it appeared to be a kind of red and navy blue livery with a weird-shaped livery on the tail. I know this is not descriptive at all, but does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?

This was bugging me all the way down to FLL so any help is appreciated!

What kind of plane was it? 2, 3, or 4 engines? Any ideas of the aircraft type will make an ID much easier.

I honestly did not get to look long enough to determine...BUT it did seem fairly large...

No, I'm a JFK regular and it was something I did not recognize.

Does Cargo360 fly to JFK? They're rather unknown and have red all over their livery, including a weird shaped symbol on the tail. Aircraft is a 743. However the aircrafts belly is not marine blue but grey.

Nope, normal plane...By weird looking I meant a livery that I've never seen before at JFK.

This is a total guess...but possible.

Having checked the JFK Website, a flight CTT106 arrived at 8:05am from MDT. Research reveals CTT is Custom Air Transport, and that it was a Boeing 727-200. Probably looked a little something like this:

Otherwise, there was a Lan Peru flight 530 from Lima which landed about 8:15am, which was a B763.

Hey im new to airliners.net. Have always viewed but finally joined.
any chance it could have been U.S. airways livery flying HPN's PHX flight?
It matches the description of navy blue and red. If you just got a glance it could of looked a little weird and i havn't been to jfk in a couple of months but i know HPN was at terminal 7. Just a thought (great to post even though im probably wrong)

That is a good point--I thought of that too, but I don't think US mainline flies into JFK (though the retrojets definitely serve LGA, so could have been a diversion I suppose).

This is red (with some navy) and has been known to use T7 at JFK, though I suspect RJ might have recognized the kangaroo on the tail:

True, but for some strange reason a QF 744 happened to arrive at 8:48 this morning as flight 7585 from PVG via ANC: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/QFA7585

Still a bit later than 8-8:15 as RJ mentioned, though.

It doesn't appear that any of the America West 757's are scheduled into JFK today. I see 3x 319's and 4x 320s today.

The Piedmont jet is ex US Airways so most likely not this jet:

It is possible that it is one of the jets in the new livery. Quite a few have been repainted into the new US Airways scheme but operate HP routes.

Zoom in on the striping on the tail and back of the fuselage, and that might explain the unusual pattern you saw.

There seems to be a Air Jamaica flight to MBJ around that time that's operated by a B757-200. Since JM doesn't have B757's, it's probably operated by another (charter) carrier? Any idea who is operating this 757 service for JM? I know they do not use 6/7 but could have been taxiing on Alpha or Bravo going to/from T4?

SCRATCH THAT: Just found it it's operated by North American.

My roommate is the very first intern ever for Cargo 360 and is working for them this summer. So I'll give him a call today and find out. I'd like to be able to tell you some of what he does for the company (which is pretty amazing for a college junior) but I dont know if I can, so I'll ask.

How about Government of Japan 747-400? The Japanese head of state was (or is) in US. It has a large red symbol like the Japanese flag. It is very impressive looking.

Nope, I saw it depart Andrews this morning, around 8-8:30.

The US retrojets have been at JFK. Several are former HP planes.

The only former HP a/c painted as a "retrojet"/c is the HP retro.

PSA, PI, and the AL a/c are all east (original US Airways 319) a/c.
