Transaero Getting A340 And 747-400

Fri Jun 30, 2006 6:55 pm

Hi Everybody!

I just red in the "Aero International" of Juli/06 that Transaero will get 2 additional 734, 6 new 738 and 2 744. In addition to that they will get 5 A320 and 4 A340-300. That seems like a big international expansion regarding the 744 and the A340. What routes are planned with this planes?

Where will they get the 747-400 from? SIA?
What about the A340-300? Virgin Atlantic?

Thanks for your help.

That's interesting, I was on a train passing Filton in Bristol the other day and could have been sure that I saw a Transaero 747 tail sticking up from behind one of the hangers.

Perhaps some of the A340's will be ex AC machines when they start to shed them.

I think that Mojave is still "hiding" a few of those preserved machines.

First off, the UA 744s were stored at VCV, not MHV. Second, all 744s left are intended to remain with United as they are the cheapest plane to operate on a CASM basis and even come close to the trip cost of a 772ER when ownership costs are factored in.

That's a good point indeed. And interestingly, wheither it's MH, SQ or UA, their B744s are all PW-powered.

Just checked Airfleet, and they still have the four they ordered.

So we could be right with OA. Regarding they will stop intl. ops, that could probably the four airframes.

Any suggests about the routes?

The 747-200Bs Transaero operates now are 25 years old and have had a busy life flying for Air NZ and later Virgin Atlantic. I suppose that they are pretty close to final retirement.

Quite likely. IIRC, those aircraft are owned by ILFC, at least some of them.
Exceptions confirm the rule.
