So much good aviation stuff on Youtube. Anyone seen this Iberia 747 blow out an engine on takeoff?

My favorite of all time were AA's "The On-Time Machine" commercials.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

That 1978 TWA L-1011 ad was very 1970s... but I bet that Trans World's "delicious steak" in coach was as tough as shoe leather and tasted just as good, too.

I've had some fave airline commercials, too, over the years. Some of mine include:
-Southwest's "Sick of Your Job/Wanna Get Away?" ad with the "Pink Slip Virus!" (1998)... very funny.
-American's "Engine/Way of Life" ads (2002)... I wish that this campaign was still running.
-America West's "Mosh Pit" (1996) ad was funny, too. (As much as I luv WN, I still hate open seating... let's hope that WN's assigned seating test succeeds.)

But, my fave of all time has to be Delta's "Adiemus/On Top of the World" ads (which debuted in the US during the 1996 Summer Olympics). Nothing beats the ad where the balloons fly in and over the MD-11 in that Atlanta hangar. (Oddly enough, Thierry Mugler used "Adiemus" in a TV ad for their "Cologne" fragrance in 2001, four years after the DL ads ended in the US.)

-American's "Engine/Way of Life" ads (2002)... I wish that this campaign was still running.

Are you talking about the series of three - "Ramp Service" (late bag being run to a departing flight) "Important" ("Even the most junior mechanic..."), and "Farewell" (highlighting maintenance through the eyes of a 36-year employee) or is there a different series that I missed?

That series is some of my favorite airline advertising...wish AA would have stuck with tose instead of the scary big-brother-esque "We Know Why You Fly".

They can be found at http://pbmnyc.com/pbm/video/american/index.htm

I also love two commercials from PSA...

Next plane to Phoenix: http://www.catchoursmile.com/Next_To_Phoenix.WMV
and
We've got to be tough to make you smile: http://www.catchoursmile.com/PSA_Tough.WMV (though it's kind of a generic insert-any-airline-here ad)

... I wonder if US will roll out any "Heritage Advertising  Wink?

Give the long tradition of great (or at least good) AAdvertising American had built up, one really wonders why they thought creeping customers out was a good idea.

Yeah, they say "California....It's the cheese"  Smile... I love that ad partially because of how generic it is; it would take at most 7 edits to turn that into a commercial for any airline [Watch it again, and anytime you hear or see the letters "PSA" insert "Delta" or "Continental" or "United" or "American"

In regards to AA's current ads, I saw a CO ad in NY last December that said "Why you fly is your business. Our business is getting you there."

I too agree that the "We know why you fly" campaign is not nearly as good as any of the aforementioned commercials. However, if the current campaign compels more people to fly American than past campaigns, then it works.
Give me a break, I created this username when I was a kid...

Perhaps someone can find the Aer Lingus TV spot from the 80's featuring the 747- that was pretty cool for its day- all I can remember is great music and an amazing sunrise/set that you could see through the aircraft from the far side

One of my favorites is an ANA one where the presenter is Frank Sinatra. Yes olf Blue eyes himself. There are many famous people who will do commercials in Japan but not in their home country.

Take a look!

Another is the ANA commercial with dancing 747s at HND T2 opening at HND.
Yes...I am not a KIX fan. Let's Japanese Aviation!

Love those adverts! I just whish I was around in those retro days of Aviation, so much new innovative aircraft that all had their own individual characteristics. Nowadays all aircraft are getting too similar.

My all time favorite...the Southern Airways spot in which a man walks through first class--and sees lobster--a woman peeling grapes--violins--only to be told he's in second class....with straw on the floor..a bare light bulb hanging from the ceiling..various peasants and farm animals...and someone stirring a cauldron.....a classic..

Anyone remember the old Southern Airways ad from the 1970's where a hapless passenger walks through a roman orgy in First Class and is told, "second cabin, please" which turns out to be bare metal floor like a boxcar deportation.

Classic, and prophetic! Anyone have the link?

In First Class, passengers stretch out on special Sleeper Seats for maximum comfort. The AS commercials from 1998 were pretty good, I liked the future AS employee as a FA and A&P the best!!!

The other AS commercial that was funny was the guy going to the lav and finding out it cost $1 to use it...IN CHANGE! So he had to ask the pax for spare change from a $5 bill, I think. I dont think he made it to the lav!  rotfl
