Transfer Time In FRA

Sun Jul 02, 2006 5:45 pm

Gday

I wll be flying SYD-BKK-FRA-HAM in August and was wondering how much transit time I have to allow for the transfer in FRA.

SYD-FRA will be on TG and FRA-HAM on LH.

I guess that I will have to pickup my luggage in FRA and go to the Domestic terminal? How far is that from the International terminal?

Thanks!

no, you don't have to pick up your luggage! Just send it through to HAM with LH from SYD.

You will arrive in Terminal 1, usually in councourse B. Your connecting flight to HAM could be in councourse B but in most times it is departing from councourse A so you don't have to change any terminals. The way from B to A isn't so far and there is a Skyline which connects these to councourse with each other within 1 minute. I would say you will have a maximum connecting time of 30 minutes in case you have already sent through your lugguage from SYD to HAM and have your boarding pass for the LH domestic flight as well.

Cheers

Hi Ori

Thanks for your reply.

Don't I need to take my luggage through customs in FRA since I am connecting to a domestic flight? Surely there will be no customs in HAM after arriving on a domestic flight.....

That's the way it is here in Australia.

Thaigold, within the EU Schengen area, the last airport is responsible for customs, so, yes, you could very well be checked in Hamburg; the officials at the airport can see from your luggage tag that you're arriving from outside the Schengen area (inside Schengen you get luggage tags with green stripes along the sides, outside you don't).

You'll have your passport checked here in Frankfurt, you'll be passing through customs with whatever you're carrying in your hand luggage, but, fortunately, you will not have to pass customs with your checked luggage - as Ori already correctly stated, that gets (or, to be more precise, can be checked) in Hamburg.

Regarding your connection - I think it's been ages since I've seen a flight to HAM departing from concourse B, but I don't fly much on domestic routes... nonetheless, aside from the train connecting concourses B and A, there's also a tunnel between the two that you can walk along (which I usually prefer): it's a bit tricky to find, but if you watch out for the signs for Terminal A, you'll usually find it quite easily.

Frank
