US To Upgrade MSY Service, Facilities

Mon Jul 03, 2006 12:14 pm

US has already annouced that they will be adding three new nonstops from MSY to CLT and PHL come September. Now, browsing through the schedules today, I noticed that US will be making the following upgrades:

1) One of the MSY-DCA E170 flights will be upgraded to an A319. Not a surprise, seeing how the 170's are usually overbooked by 9 or more on a daily basis.

2) One of the MSY-PHL flights (inbound into MSY from CLT) will be upgraded from an A319 to an A321.

Also, the US ticket counter here and all three of their gates are getting ready to receive a massive facelift, including new signage and carpeting. Work should begin this month.

Last I heard was that they were supposed to be back in September, but the flights are not showing in the schedule.

If I was a betting man, I'd say that we'll see PHX and/or LAS come back by October or November at the latest, when the cruise ships return.

This is very good news. I'm just wondering where all these additional and larger aircraft are coming from  Smile

Tell me about it. I have no clue why they were using the 170s in the first place given all the government traffic they are soaking up.

That is good given that PHL service in particular is a bit abysmal

Probably redeployment from other routes that could use a downgrade in capacity

I bet some of the A321s are coming from the FLL focus city-to-hub routes. Used to be that PHL-FLL was a bunch of A321s. Not anymore...
USAir A321 service now departing for SFO with fuel stops in CAK, COS and RNO. Enjoy your flight.
