787 Interior On Future 777s

Tue Jul 04, 2006 11:44 pm

This is not a poll. While some have suggested that a 787-style interior would be difficult on the 747-8 due to the upper deck, it is definately possible on the 777. The 787-style interior has larger bins and an arched ceiling. The Boeing Signature Interior (the 777-style interior) was so successful with passengers, it was later adopted on the 767-400ER, newer 767-200s and 767-300s, the 747-400ER, and the 747-8. Airbus has attempted to imitate the design for the A350 and A380. The 787-style interior appears to be even better, and hopefully it gets adopted on the 777 in the future. The only aspect that would be different are the windows. Any thoughts on this?

I don't see what the upper deck has to do with the price of fish - there is plenty of space to install such an interior on the lower deck at least, and elements could be adopted for the upper deck just as with the 747-400ER.

Given Boeing included the 777 style interior as an option on 767s after the 777 had entered service, I wouldn't be surprised to see the 787 style interior become an option on the 777 from the end of the decade, especially given it is pretty much an evolution of the 777 style interior.

I would be even less surprised if it ended up being standard on the 747-8 from the get-go. The pictures that have been published so far of the entrance lobby look like they have borrowed a fair bit from the 787 style.

If customers desire it, I see no reason why Boeing will not work to offer it.
