New NZ Start-up : FirstJet.com

Wed Jul 05, 2006 7:13 pm

Hello.....

It seems as if Qantas, Air New Zealand and Origin Pacific are set to face some new competition on intra-new zealand routes as a new airline, "FirstJet.com," are about to launch services before the year's end. The new airline claims that it will initiate services with a single 737 aircraft and then expand it's fleet to 5 737 aircraft before the end of the first financial year.

"We are a new airline in our formative stages. Our initial operation will be based in Auckland flying New Zealand domestic flights at extremely low fares. Currently we are confirming aircraft, and we hope to initiate services before the end of 2006!"

Full details & Airline website : www.firstjet.zor.org

Is this ridiculous or well over-due for New Zealand? Your thoughts on this are much appreciated.

Thanks,
Colin

It is company policy to offer the lowest fares available, by a country mile! Our current projected fare table has the highest fare, for Auckland - Queenstown, set at $12! This fare includes all taxes and charges applicable! The initial route we will fly, Auckland - Wellington, will have an Advance Fare of just $2 and a Walkon Fare of only $4!

And they intend to make money how?

It says on their website that they are going to advertise the planes for marketing, similar to what Ryanair had done with it's 732's.

i don't think that any of the existing airlines will be worried about that airline. look how that picture of the plane looks like it was made in MS Paint, pixellated etc...

Time will tell what happens. But judging by the website, it looks more like a virtual airline for flight sim than a real world carrier

and i don't even see how with advertising they'd have fare cheaper than a bus ride from the city to the airport.

and those ridiculous 10,000 1c tickets? for sure there will be idiots bying those. i guess it'll be 100% margins cause they won't be any flight. easy way of making a quick $100? (or whatever that amount is. Math's never been my forte)

They must have read up on RYANAIR.
"COMING SOON
10,000 seats between WELLINGTON or AUCKLAND for just 1c! "

"has the highest fare, for Auckland - Queenstown, set at $12! This fare includes all taxes and charges applicable! The initial route we will fly, Auckland - Wellington, will have an Advance Fare of just $2 and a Walkon Fare of only $4!"

-sounds like a little kid wrote that, SEXY GREEN JET?

I don't know, I guess We'll have to see how it does. one problem is that New Zealand isn't that big. Were as in Europe with Ryan air there are alot of people over there, and younger people traveling, so theres a market. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Well if they're going to fly to "every destination in the country", they are going to need another aircraft type than just a 737! Just try getting a fully loaded 737 out of New Plymouth, let alone Whangarei...

Even if they do have a European model of service, they will not have the wide European customer base required to get that economy of scale and be successful. Also, as above, this country is not covered with 1900m runways supporting full passenger loaded 737s like Europe is...

They'd be taking an awful risk, pinning it all on advertising everywhere and basically being a flying advertisement mark ten and carrying passengers about as a sideline!!!

Time will tell, but on available evidence I doubt Air New Zealand, Origin Pacific, or Qantas have anything to worry about.

I love the fact that they say they will be flying 737's when they have a picture of the nose of an Airbus.

Are you joking? Some of you actually think this thing is for real??

It looks like the website was designed by a 7 year old. I'm sure if any airline intended to start ops in NZ it would be in the media.

How would they afford to lease an aircraft when they cannot afford to purchase a proper website?

hmm.... guys from your comments im not even going to bother take this one seriously but i would like to point out, i was in NZ two weeks ago and domestic airfares were about double the price of similar flights within Australia.

My guess is, there is actually room for a little competition.... however given teh current configuration adopted by Air NZ and QF, they basically are already set up for lowco ops.... they could quicly lower the price and kill anybody with frequencies unless who ever it was, was extremely well cashed up.

I think there is room for competition in this market but I do think the whole 'advertising campaign' is risky business too. Would there be any room for them to operate from any of the current domestic terminal facilities in NZ airports?

Also, speaking of New Zealand start-ups, what happened to "Jump Airlines" who wanted to start NZ domestic ops a few years back with 73G's? Could this be a revival from that?

Dunedin has a HUGE space now with the airport pretty much finished being revamped, and they only have SJ and NZ operating out of DUD, they are looking for another airline. But wouldnt be enough traffic domestically.

He/She should get good marks for this!

For the record I don't tihnk any LCC would target WLG as it's first route or for it's "1c" route. PPQ with a A318 maybe???? (is it long enough now??) or wiyj a ATR72.
