Quote:
More than 100 passengers were evacuated on Friday from a flight headed to New Zealand from a regional Australian airport after a note containing a hoax bomb threat was found before it took off, police said.

The flight operated by Freedom Air, a budget subsidiary of Air New Zealand, was due to take off from the Coolangatta airport in northern Queensland state for New Zealand when a passenger found an apparently threatening note.

"It was a hoax," Australian Federal Police (AFP) spokesman Nicholas Pedley said.

Pedley said all 107 passengers were evacuated from the plane and all were safe. The plane was towed away from the terminal to a remote corner of the airport and searched, he said.

Wow, very unfortunate that this kind of this is going on. Waste of money for the airline, and a waste of time for police, airline officials, security and the passengers who I am sure would have more pressing real issues to attend to.

Quoting NZ560 (Thread starter):
was due to take off from the Coolangatta airport in northern Queensland state

An obvious typo, but Coolangatta is in southern Queensland. No big deal.

People who are caught making hoaxes should be prosectued to the fullest extent, and be made respnosible for loss of revenue and costs associated with the bomb search.

I guess there is one advantage to the US govt policy of fingerprint scanning arriving passengers into the US... if they pull off some stupid stunt like this it is easy enough to get the prints and match them to their arrival.

Anyone caught doing this should be fined and be banned from flying. I know many airlines have a policy of not allowing a passenger who makes a threat/hoax from flying again (for at least a certain period), and many will then let their competitors also know so that the person is denied boarding by other airlines also.
56 types. 38 countries. 24 airlines.
