Fuel Prices In Caracas (CCS), Good Refueling Stop?

Sun Jul 09, 2006 12:05 pm

Does anybody know what the price of Jet Fuel is in Caracas (CCS) and if it would make sense for flights to/from Brazil, Argentina, Chile to/from Mexico/US/Canada, particularly cargo, to refuel there to save money?

The reason I am asking is because gasoline prices in Venezuela are the cheapest in the world at a ridicolously low price of about US$0.12/galon.

See worldwide gas prices here

I'd imagine that Jet Fuel would also be ridicolously low.

Does anyone know?

The street gas is sold to the public with hefty government subsidies.

If you are looking for a cheaper aviation fuel stop, CCS is usually not one of those.

Several cargo carriers make use of Manaus or Port of Spain for such pit stops.

While my mother fills our 98' Grand Caravan minivan with 95 octane premiun gasoline and just paying USD 4, the aviation fuel is a complete different business.

Jet A1 here is sold at international prices. Only domestic airlines get discounted fuel for "select" domestic flights.

Current price for Jet A1 at CCS is USD 0.55 per litre.

Hope this helps.

Official exchange rate is 1 US$ to 2.150 VBs.

According to IATA (here - http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/economics/fuel_monitor/index.htm ) the worldwide average price is $2.12 per gallon.

According to Google - (US$ 2.12) per US gallon = 0.560044749 US$ per litre.

No bargins here.

Thanks guys - that was helpful, I didn't realize that the gas prices were that low based on subsidies.

May I ask an off-thread question... Doesn't that low gas price cause a big problem with people smugling gas across to border, say to Brazil where fuel prices are 40 times higher? I mean that must be more lucrative than smugling drugs, no?
