Air Malta Incident In Brussels

Sun Jul 09, 2006 7:08 pm

I just arrived back to Basle from Malta on Air Malta with a delay of more than 12 hours. Apparently a KM aircraft collided with an airbridge in Brussels. As a result they were an aircraft short which led to the huge delay. A look at the Malta International Airport arrivals page shows that KM seem to have leased an Portugese Tristar to replace the damaged aircraft. Does anybody have any more news on what happened?

On a slightly different note, can I make a claim with KM for a delay of more than 12 hours?

No - they will claim it is an exceptional circumstance and not covered under EU compensation rules. Your travel insurance (which you have of course because no sensible traveller ever leaves home without it) should cover you.

I thought the travel insurance only covers you in case you can't make the flight due to sickness or injury.

Most travel policies have provision for compensation in the event of long delays - I'm guessing more than 12 hours would be counted as a long delay. Have you checked your policy?
