Stage IV Compliant MD-80 Arrives At Farnborough

Fri Jul 14, 2006 12:21 am

Hushkit specialist Comtran has brought its Stage 4-compliant Super Q MD-80 family demonstrator to Farnborough in the UK ahead of the Farnborough air show next week...

...Comtran owner Doug Jaffe plans to lease the 93 former US Airways MD-80s once made Stage 4 compliant, through his Jetran International venture.

Mr. Jaffe has ambitious plans indeed.

Any news, how was it at Farnborough? Did they show it in flight? Any orders?
Thanks

Your link does not work.

93 ex-US Airways MD-80's? That has got to be a mistake, AFAIK there were only about 30 in the fleet.

Thanks!  Smile I am really interested in this project, even if I think that it won't be very successful, as it does not cure the main disadvantage of the -80 nowadays, i.e. the relatively high fuel consumption.

They fitted winglets, so the MD-80 is more "fuel friendly"....

Maybe they got that number backwards...39 - but probably not 93.

Yet strangely, it was fitted with the old-style non-fuel friendly tailcone. Hrrrm.
