Rumor: Skyway Purchasing Additional FRJ

Fri Jul 14, 2006 1:29 pm

Just heard from a high up at Skyway that they are finalizing purchase of one FRJ, and that's all they told us. If it happens, expect an announcement around Monday or Tuesday. Any speculation as to what they'll do with just one more FRJ? and Who they're buying it from?

If you assume the BE1 are going and the 50-seat RJ's are coming, Skyway could still use a few more FRJ's

I plotted out a possible schedule under this scenario, and even with some cutbacks in existing BE1 routes, most of the FRJ flying would move to places like Green Bay, St Louis, Des Moines, Marquette, etc. That means nearly every current FRJ market would have to upgrade to 50-seat RJs. Some like Balitmore and Hartford will have no problem filling the extra 18 seats, but not every FRJ market really needs the upgrade. So they could use another FRJ or two to try to lessen the jump in capacity.

Wherever they might be getting one additional FRJ, it must be pretty favorable terms to be worth messing around with one more. It doesn't seem likely that they had an urgent use for exactly one more FRJ and so they went shopping for that. That's like going to the grocery store and buying two slices of bread.

Don't expect GRB to go FRJ too soon, loads are pretty weak on that route a lot of times. One flight that is always packed is CWA. That could use a little more capacity at times. Also, I could see CMH going all jet, and/or maybe SDF/STL/DSM getting another jet frequency.

Don't know how long have you been at skyway cause those with time know not to listen to HQ unless it's sitting on the ramp in our livery.
Good Luck to all Skyway Pilots! It's been great working with you!

Probably one of the former DH ones parked in South Carolina.

When the BE1's go I'm sure Green Bay will see FRJs again. Other than Skyway, Green Bay hasn't had anything but jets for years. Frequent fliers at GRB know that Skyway mean 40 minutes in a Beech and everyboyd BUT Skyway is a jet. Also GRB 's six flights per day means that some of them are at comparably weak times of the day and that makes overall load factor less than steller. That 8:30pm southbound flight alone carries mostly air and hurts the GRB average. But with FRJs flying only and the 4 or so heaviest times they'll probably do a lot better.

I know that, I felt like sharing my possibly unfounded rumor anyways. I definitely didn't believe them when they said they weren't planning on getting rid of the BE1's any time soon.... The pilots already know it but there will still be a mutiny when it's announced.

Yeah, I heard this from a friend of mine who trains for Skyway in MKE. It probably is one of the ex-DH birds in MYR. Hated working them with ACA, but YX's were excellent. Nice ride too, took one to MKE with that friend last summer. Knope2001, welcome to my RR list.

How long has Skyway been talking about these FRJ's? Like 2 years now?

I too heard about the FRJ purchase talking with a manager from another station who heard about it. Also heard about 355SK. So it seems like at the moment, if/when the new bird comes online, it'll be back to square one for a bit.

As for new FRJ routes, MKG has been packed lately. We could use at least one FRJ on a morning flight out.

I dunno. What I heard was that at some station they forgot to pull out the adapter before retracting the jetway, and the adapter fell out and came down on the door, damaging it pretty good.

But on the same note, our dispatch routing today shows 355 flying a line, so I have no idea now.

I thought that they evaluated the ex-DH birds and gave them the thumbs-down due to poor maintenance.

Yeah that's what I heard to, but it may not hurt just to get one or a couple. So since this is a "rumor", you guys up at skyway think this is true? It'd be good to see Skyway finally moving ahead and addin more jets to their fleet.
Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

355 was flying today, so if it was out for mx it's back now.
