Fri Jul 14, 2006 9:28 pm

Just wondering which North American airline has the most presence at LHR?

Looks like AA or AC followed by UA....

Are you kidding? Five a day to YYZ - now that's what I call frequency. I think Air Canada have 12 (or 13?) flights a day from LHR. Which puts them second behind American. United are woeful underachievers at LHR, only one JFK-LHR flight next to AA's 5 or 6 and BA's 10.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

AA currently has 16 daily flights (5 x ORD, 5 x JFK, 2 x LAX, 2 x MIA, DFW and RDU) whereas AC has 13 daily flights (5 x YYZ, 2 x YUL, 2 x YYC, 2 x YVR, YOW and YYT).

Surely UA would have more flights from LHR.....any pics of LHR always show multiple UA aircraft at the terminal....

You're right and wrong.
You're right about 16 flights per day. BUT you're wrong about DFW and RDU because both connect at JFK.

JFK (5 flights) - 142, 100, 104, 132, 116
MIA (2 flights) - 182, 056
ORD (5 fkights)- 090, 086, 066, 046, 098
LAX (2 flights) - 136, 134
BOS (2 flights) - 156- 108

TOTAL 16

United opertates 10 flights:
2- ORD
2- JFK
2- IAD
3-SFO
1-LAX

UA has something like 1xJFK, 2xLAX, 2x SFO, 3xORD and 4xIAD - 12 flights daily unless i've missed some. They did have more daily slots at LHR but sold some of them off to other carriers. I suspect that's why some of the JFK flights disappeared as I'm sure they used to have more than one a day...

Largest means?

Most # of flights?
Most # of seats?
Most # of (non-stop) destinations?
Most # of (single flight number) destinations?
Most # of (connections) destinations?
etc.

OK, I just saw, that the nonstop flight to RDU is from Gatwick.

It looks like AA with all those 777 flights probably offers the most seats.

5 to YYZ, wholly s****. Now that's service.

Did AC ever flight the 747 to LHR?

I can't comment on all of this, but a quick and dirty calculation based on *todays* schedule shows:

UA, 12 flights, 2990 seats (777 258 seats, 763 193 seats, 744 347 seats)

ORD 3x777
LAX 1x763, 1x777
JFK 1x777
SFO 1x744, 1x777
IAD 2x763, 1x777

AC, 13 flights, 3135 seats (762 207 seats, 763 212 seats, 333 274 seats, 343 286 seats)
YYC 1x333, 1x763
YUL 2x763
YOW 1x763
YYT 1x763
YYZ 1x763, 1x762, 2x333, 1x343
YVR 2x333

AA, 16 flights, 3584 seats (777 224 seats -- I don't know which 777 seat map is used on trans-atlantic, so this number may be higher)
BOS 2x777
ORD 5x777
LAX 2x777
MIA 1x777
JFK 6x777

As I said, quick and dirty, and shows todays non stop flights.

Connect at JFK? The DFW and RDU is non-stop to LGW sinc DFW and RDU are not allowed to have LHR flights.

I have a question...why is American offering more seats out of both LAX and ORD than UA? ORD is supposed to be United's biggest hub and AA utterly dominates on ORD-LHR.

Because AA has the oneworld connection with BA in London. UA, which doesn't have a European presence like AA in the first place, routes much of its connecting traffic in Europe through LH's Star Alliance hub at FRA.

don't forget that LHR is AA's oneworld partner BA's main hub - so it make sense for AA to have plenty of capacity on this route.

While BD is obviously a Star partner it doesn't offer a smany connections in europe as LH, therefore I suspect if you look at ORD-FRA UA will be pretty strong on this route.

If you take away connections I would think that UA and AA carry about the same number of O/D passengers to LHR. AA uses BA for connections in Europe. UA uses LH. United has a good number of flights into Frankfurt for connections and additionally UA and LH codeshare on all transatlantic flights (which BA and AA are prohibited from doing), so UA can put passengers on LH metal across the Atlantic. UA and AA are both big in Europe, but alliance partners make them a lot more different. Meanwhile CO and DL are flying to many more destinations nonstop and not using alliance partners for connections within Europe as much.

Definately AC. Being the number one airline in 05, AC has mastered the art of supply and demand.

On a really random note, when I flew out of LHR a few weeks past, I noticed a/c making sharp turns to the right, being perpendicular to the t/o runway within one minute. Is this standard noise abaitment or was it for Wimbledon?

On another really random note, I am posting this from my blackberry so could y'alls tell me if she turns out OK!?

Cheers,
