SAS At EWR

Thu Jun 22, 2000 3:04 pm

Does anybody know why SAS is leaving EWR at around 2:35 PM this summer. Maybe it was just today but this airplane went to the skies like a bullet. By the time it turned 180 from 22R it had to be at least 10,000 ft. COOOOOOL site to see those GE engines put a big smoke thru the sky

I am flying SAS out of Newark in August and it leaves at 5:45pm, although on my return its arrives at 1:10pm, maybe it was late and had to go around or its not the same flight I am going on. That is an unusual time to leave for an international flight.

No. I know almost every airline and time it leaveas EWR as I spent as much time there as with my wife. I was there today with my friend and even he was wondering why it left so early. I don't know maybe summer schedule or test flight. But it took of maybe in 3500 ft of runway. So cool to see 767 take off in such short distance. As I said it went to the skies as bullet. Whish I had camera with me. I know that SAS's first flight leaveas about 5 pm. This one was really early.

Mmm, thats interesting. your guess is good as mine. Perhaps they chartered a flight out? I doubt it considering their demand for long haul aircraft. It sounds like it was empty to me, so your more than likly right, and it wsa a test flight or something. Let us know if you see it again.

I'll be there tomorrow. You'll know about it. The only time i've seen 767 take-off so fast was EL-AL probably going to Toronto. But today's was the best I've ever seen by 767

They have not changed the arrival time here in Oslo from EWR at least.

In comes in every day at 08:30 AM.

This is really just a guess, but as it seems like the aircraft was empty, it could be on it's way to Toronto to get the new interiour fitted. Air Canada is currently doing some cabin refits on SAS 763. Some of them will recieve the new colours too.

BTW SAS 767s have PW engines, not GEs.

Just a question. Is there no web-service showing departures/arrivals from EWR??

In Norway you can get updated (online) info on arrivals/departures for Oslo airport, and the same for Stockholm, Sweden.

SAS also have a tracking service from their website where it is possible to see what time all flights have departured. Unfortunately this service only run back fo 48 hours.

Seeing that it did not depart at the regularly scheduled time, I agree with Jlb. It was either departing for Toronto for its new interior or it may have been making a short maintenance flight in order to check something.

No, not today. And my friend was there yesterday and that plane never came back. Today is just regular schedule. On the other hand I saw Spirit landing and it came nose up and when it was about 20 feet above rnwy it just droped down and almost scraped it's tail. It had less than 1 foot between rnwy and it's tail.

I wasn't at thea airport when i saw it, i was in my backyard which gives me a great view of departing aircraft when they are using 22R or 22L. Anyways the best parts for spotting are at lot G or the road next to ikea on the turnpike side. The fence got knocked down by a truck so you can just walk in. The guy there just asked what i was doing and i said watching planes and he was real cool about it.
