Sat Jul 15, 2006 8:42 am

to no surprise..............we will be up to 4 jets a day starting with the September schedule change. IAH departures will depart at: 0755/1050/1600/1840...................JFK departures will be: 0535/0800/1320/1629...................

CO? They fly to JFK?

Thought they had a hub at New York/ Newark-Liberty Int'l Airport because in Gordon Bethune's words, "JFK is just to darn far from everything."

Why would they increase flying there now? Surely a Legacy carrier just starting to turn a profit after 9/11 wouldn't waste time or money on starting a flight just to stifle a new airline entry . . . would they?

He really said that? As if EWR is located right in Manhattan...
It appears CO will be keeping the third IAH-JFK, which was originally going to be seasonal, and adding a 4th flight to the schedule. This would have to be a B6 response, but how do these flights perform now without the B6 presence?

CO is increasing JFK-IAH from 3 flights to 4 flights per day......no big deal. CO has flown the JFK-IAH route for many years (aside from a period after 9/11 when it was cut) for passenger choice and to allow connections at JFK to the international flights of other carriers to destinations not served by CO.

As for JetBlue flying from JFK to Hobby? Its not CO's job to make things so easy for JetBlue, is it?  Smile

3 737-500s and 1 737-700, not bad but atleast one 737-800 would be cool.

The 737-800 does appear rarely, though only as a sub. The only time I remember it coming, it was a sweet looking winglet model

The 737-800s and 757-200s look like totally different aircraft with the winglets, much more powerful looking in my opinion. I wish they would give it a try on their 767-200s, aviation partners is looking for a customer to build 767 winglets for.

Probably not with the 787's coming on soon and it wouldn't payoff that much with more range as any gains in that area would be flown by the 777 now.
But who know's it could happen!

They don't need the range increase that the winglets offer, but they could definitely enjoy the fuel savings.

They might be interested in extending the 767-200s range a bit if they were interested in operating some Oil business flights out of IAH to fields in Russia, Middle East, West Africa or the North Sea.

That would probably be the biggest reason for the addition of winglets as well as fuel savings....they're probably weighting out all these options now in regards as to the future of the 762's

We flew just a couple of weeks ago on CO between IAH and JFK. Once we got to JFK, we connected on to Alitalia. After talking with several other passengers, it seemed like quite a few were connecting to other international carriers. They were full flights both ways.

One think CO can offer on their flights to JFK is completely seamless connections.. espescially to other skyteam carriers. With B6 have fun claiming your bags and heading back to the ticket counter.

Seems like the 1050 flight would be perfect to connect those passengers from the Queens/Brooklyn areas of New York to Houston flights to Mexico, Central & South America that don't have direct access from Newark.

You might want to read my trip report concerning CO and AZ in JFK. The experience was anything but seamless, although it is advertised that you only have to check in one time for Skyteam. It did not quite work out that way, and I am still awaiting a response from CO regarding the matter.

Wow, cool report! I love reading them...it's interesting to hear everyone's stories.

I'm sure CO will respond, they are good at that. I complained a couple years ago when I bought a ticket (not non-rev) and I was delayed 2 days getting home from MHT due to the usual crap in EWR. The agent wasn't really great, but they at least appologized, however I was not offered any compensation.

IAH is a total nightmare to connect in...the weather delays are usually quite bad, especially this time of year. Of course even when the weather is good, our flights come in late constantly. I hear lots of complaints about IAH from customers...especially regarding the short connection times and HUGE walks to other gates. I missed a connection myself there once...wasn't fun.
Catch a ride on a smile!

Though I feel the 4th flight is to compete with B6 on JFK-HOU, the CO JFK flights are more International Connections flight both ways. Co PAX can go from IAH-JFK-Somewhere in Europe or JFK-IAH-Somewhere else in US or Mexico that they don't serve from places like EWR. It works both ways and it seems like it is a good connecting city for them. If CO could get into Terminal 1 then things would be perfect for them in connections, they would either connect right there or go right to T2/3.

Ahh...

Does anyone else remember not that long ago I started a thread almost with the same title? I commented that CO was going to from 2x to 3x daily JFK-IAH. This was before B6 had announced JFK-HOU. My point was that CO was getting ready for B6's entry into the NYC-Houston market. Others felt that the adjustment was just seasonal and had nothing to do with B6 since they hadn't announced anything as of that writing. My point was CO could see B6's entry coming, even if it was just seasonal at that time.

But even a purely seasonal adjustment was significant because for the longest time CO had no interest in JFK (this was clearly the case as they maintained one token flight from IAH-JFK for a long time).

Now, as I predicted, CO is stepping up IAH-JFK. I find it interesting and also not surprising that CO is adding an 8 a.m. JFK to IAH flight. To my knowledge the 5 a.m. departure was CO's only a.m. departure from JFK. I know there is a huge bank of CO flights leaving IAH at 9-10 a.m., so such an odd time makes sense. But it seemed like a waste of resources to have staff show up and work one flight leaving at 5 in the morning, and that's all.
