CO 737-900 And Winglets...

Mon Jul 17, 2006 1:30 am

I have read on this forum before, that Continental is putting blended winglets on all of their 737-700s and -800s. Just curious: is there any possibility they could install them on -900s as well?

Any info is appreciated. Thanx!

Even if they don't need the extra range any where they can save fuel they should make that investment.

I have not heard if the -900 model has had the winglet STC'd yet? I think you all are right, if it saves fuel lets put them on.

I dont think that a winglet program has been certified for the 739.....due to the small number of 739s produced, costs may be prohibitive. CO has only twelve 739s...which are rather effecient even without winglets so its probably not a priority.

Katie, a Inflight service specialist (FA) for CO told me that winglets are being installed on the 739. I told her shes nuts, but told me they're planning to do it.

How would she know? Do flight attendants know such events or rumors? Maybe Ewrcabincrew would know this.

If Katie in Inflight says so, then I guess we're out of the loop in Flt Ops.

Here is a preview of how it would look like if CO added winglets to their 739's and 753's:

Big version: Width: 1310 Height: 823 File size: 60kb

Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 683 File size: 37kb

Kinda have to go with Dutchjet here, the 739 isn't a "range specialist" but with the extra paying pax. and that there is only 12 of them, the cost of installation, etc vrs. the the savings probably is either a wash or slightly negative...probably isn't going to happen...but who knows...
