Singapore Airlines Adopts Larger Titling On Planes

Singapore Airlines Limited seems to be adopting for sure (barring some extravaganza in terms of a livery change which slowly seems more and more unlikely), the larger A380 typeface.

I came to this conclusion while about to sleep and browsing through KrisShop.



Looks different. And the tail seems slightly whitened at the bottom too.
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

I prefer the current style. It's classy, and refined. Just like SQ.

In preparation for the arrival of the 380 they have removed the 'MEGATOP' titles from all (?) their 744s:

They have been removing ALL the names - Megatop, Jubilee etc - for a while now. The current CEO is not a fan of them apparently.

The only one that has survived so far has been Mega Arc on the 744F's.

I am not very fond of those huge titles on the A380 - they're simply too big and remind me of an LCC - the very last thing SIA should be compared with.

The A380 titles are terrible but those new 777 titles (if true) are fine.

I was going to ask about that. They should have left megatop and used mega ark for the 380.

EWWW. Subtly is sometimes better for design. Why are they going for big titles. Even on the A380 its seems...LCCish. Just add .com after it and they have dropped in status.

Jubilee 777
Leadership A345

The 777 and A345 which were new have names of prestige or honor. I like them better than Megatop.

A380 could have been "Celebration", "Triumph" or "Ambition".
787 could have been "Friendship", "Experience" or "Endeavour"

Did they have names for their other planes?

I would have gone for "Megaliner" with the A380 - fits in nicely with the 744 Megatop and the 787 Dreamliner.

But the problem here is that the top deck of a 380 is much more mega than that of a 744.

I noted an SQ 744F on approach to LHR over Chelsea recently and saw for the first time the 'MEGA ARK' titles on the underside of the nose. Did the passenger version have 'MEGATOP' titles in this same, rather unusual position?

I know you are trying to invoke the idea of "Queen of the Sky" but in a little more graduer, but the name in the SIA tradition would not work. It has gender and doesn't "define the function". Maybe change the E to an I...and you have a word that would work quite well with an A388.

I personally don't like Megatop. It sounds like it was thought up by a surfer. "Totally megatop dude." It doesn't fit with the elegant names of the 777 and A345. Megatop = big head, circus, Vanilla Ice's hair. It is the contradiction of "Queen of the Sky".

no offense , but airline models offered through their duty free catalogues often have disportionate titles and slightly odd liveries , I would have thought that if SQ were going to release a modified livery this would not be the medium that they would choose to do it through ( although if you are right it would be nice to say goodbye to the ugly gold stripe that they have had on the fin for the last few years - IMHO it has always clashed horribly with the yellow logo)

Ummm.... that gold strip on the tail you're talking about is actually Orange, and the yellow logo you're talking about is actually Gold.  Wink

The MegaArk had "MegaArk" written on the underside because when the nose opened up, you wouuld be able to see that the open nose was that of an SIA744F, named the MegaArk. The B744 Megatop only had the titles on the side of the aircraft near the cockpit.
