Is The Paris Airshow Bigger Than Farnborough?

Mon Jul 17, 2006 9:14 am

I just read today that the Farnborough airshow had only 100 static display aircraft in the 2004 show. I wonder how many aircraft were on static display at Paris last year. Is the Paris airshow bigger and better?

Has anyone done a count of the static aircraft on display at Farnborough this year? It would be interesting to know the number.

I was there today and they said there were around 150 on display. There were a lot of planes but 150 seemed high.

Paris is normally regarded as the premier airshow above Farnborough (and I'm a loyal Englishman!!!). I'm not sure if I can quantify why though.

I always considered Paris as the larger airshow as the An 225 usually appeared there along with the Airbus a300st beluga

Just a thought.
Should the Farnborough show be rolled into the Paris airshow and then make it an annual show there?

In 2004, there was a fair bit of talk of Farnborough dwindling in comparison to Paris, and even questions of whether it was worth continuing it in the future, or consolidating to the bi-annual Paris Air Show. I was just reading an article about this recently, though I can't recall where exactly.

Given this year's Farnborough seems to be a reversal of the trend, to borrow the phrase, stories of its demise have been greatly exaggerated...

Farnborough used to be in September, but was recently moved to July to get better weather (too hot now!) and spike the rival Berlin show!
