Any idea if they are introducing a new livery? There were rumblings of such last year. Either way I trust you will set us up with the first shots  Wink

I found the new livery that I mentioned earlier. It is listed on the Lila Designs website as "unofficial". Does that mean that TAAG did contact Lila for a new livery - even if this is not the final rendition?

Does anyone know if they are still planning on serving IAH with their new 777's? That is a really cool livery by the way. Definitely more appealing than the eurowhite schemes we see all over today.

Everytime I see that livery on here, I have to comment. It would be the best new livery I've seen in a long while!

Are these 2 frames the only outstanding orders from TAAG? Any idea how they'll replace the 747's (I guesse they're flying 2 or 3 aren't they)?

They have 2 - 777-200ER's and 4 - 737-700's on order with Boeing.

TAAG's chairman said the following:

Quote:
Mr. Neto also stated that TAAG's order is intended to fully replace the current fleet of two 747-300s and five 737-200s.

Here is the press release that I pulled the quote from:
http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2005/q3/nr_050718h.html

Note: The pic in the press release shows the a/c in the current livery.

No PLEASE! That Lila design livery is horrible by the way.

Boeing's press release showed PIA's 777s in the nicer old livery, and then they showed up painted in that 'pirates of the caribbean livery' they have now, ugly.

Wow, nice! I didn't think this order would pull through but apparently it did. The TAAG order was placed quite some time ago AFAIK and there was quite some speculation and skepticism about this order up to a point where it might have been cancelled all together. Good to see the TAAG 772ER finally coming out. That will indeed be one of the best looking 777s to date! Nice nice and congrats to both Boeing and TAAG, they will have the best aircraft in its class so far!

I'm looking forward to your pictures Clickhappy. You are the Boeing version of Airbus's french frog slides photographer. In other words, great photos! Keep it up I'd say!

The design on by Lila is unofficial as noted on their website. Althought I would love to see the proposed livery, it is probably not going to happen now.

Why is GIG so important to TAAG? Is there some sort of close relationship between these 2 countries?, or is it just the fact that they both were ex-portuguese colonies and speak the same language? Is there actually alot of market for air travel to and from Angola? I have not heard much about it in the past.

I remember reading here in the forum that Angola and Brazil have a very healthy business relation with each other because of the oil and diamond business in the Angola region. The fact that these two countries are both Portuguese speaking may also have its share here from both a business perspective as well as from a VFR perspective. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

737-7M2 D2-TBF is now sitting on the flightline in Renton at the southern most airfield stand in preparation for first flight. The rudder and winglets are in livery and the rest of the plane is green.

She is already looking like a true beauty destined to be an efficient workhorse in TAAG's fleet.

I found this picture on http://www.TAAG.com.br. Not sure if this represents the livery, but it sure looks nice.

WOW, that livery looks even better than the Lila Design livery. It looks fresh with the wavy colours but yet it retains the very recognisable TAAG livery. The large TAAG titles are nice too. Nice job! Thanks for posting the link Carolyn.

Hi!

I find TAAG livery one of the most exciting and stricking liveries in the world. The good things is that it was TAP that worked together with TAAG to have the livery the way it has been till now! That was achieved when TAP did the major checks to their 707 back to late 70's!!!! I have a secret hope to fly with them to Congo next Spring!!!

Correct, just with more details:
Civil Construction (Odebrecht, Camargo Correa), Oil (Petrobras and many suppliers), Mining (Vale do Rio Doce), and a growing immigrant base all are links between GIG and LAD. They improved the flights from a 1x weekly to 2x weekly, and there are rumors of a 3rd frequency next year. The flight also keep a strong Y demand as Brazil is a cheap place for Angola people buy clothes, electronics and computers.
We could also see a strong demand for cargo like telecom stuff (sometimes the 743 runs a leg GIG-SJP to take cargo), oil research spare parts. Just to compare, TAAG (with 2 flights per week) use to take more cargo than KLM (who flies 7x weekly).
Loads for this route are closer to 90%.

The livery on the Brazilian TAAG is nice, an great improvement. The wavy lines and mostly white body are typical and not very creative though.

Lila's livery would have really kicked some butt.

I'm very proud they fly to Brazil, but i have to say, Angolans probably are much more proud of their national airline.

That's what I meant (the Brazilan site), but didn't check it! Thanks both of you.

I hope TAAG improves its onboard service if there is a livery change, and puts in better first and business class seats. Although with the limited schedules to Angola the flights are full, I hope TAAG provides a product similar to or better than its longhaul competitors.

Well, the 777 will definately have a better cabin lay-out than the 743 TAAG operates now. It will be no question that the first and business class seats will be a much better improvement over the seats in their 743 aircraft. I mean, this is a brand new aircraft we're talking about. No doubt the seats will be an improvement over the current seats. About the service I do not know TAAG as have never flown them, only saw them once in LIS with the L1011-500, very nice aircraft by the way. But I remember reading here in the forum that TAAG has very good onboard service.

TAAG would be very benefited if took over the slots SAA left in ATLLAD-ATL-LAD 3 times a week by 77E would bring good yields for them.

Interesting, does ATL have so many Angolans that it would warrant flights from Angola to ATL? Can the 772ER fly the route nonstop (yearround)? I don't think so but I'm not the expert here.

ATL does not have many Angolans in the same way it does not have many South Africans.
However, ATL is a great hub for any airline and 77E can fly nonstop LAD-ATL-LAD year round.
LAD-ATL or ATL-LAD would take nearly 13 hours any period of the year.

Just drove past the 777 fresh out of the paint hangar at PAE... she's a beaut! The Brazilian website posted above captures it pretty well, with a few slight modifications, mainly in the "TAAG" lettering. Won't have any pics though, my camera is currently under repairs  Sad

WOW, indeed one of the best liveries on a 777 so far! I also like the slightly modified livery. The Lila Design livery looks nice but it may have been to drastic. This livery is a modest change but still very fresh and modern at the same time. A job well done! I hope I will see this bird some day but I will have to go to CDG (or ORY?) for that....

Given that LIS is their biggest destination in terms of volume, and they're restricted on the number of weekly frequencies, why would TAAG switch from the larger 747 to a much smaller 772? Are they planning on getting rid of the 747's?

Their 747-300 are combis. So, the 777-200ERs do carry more pax than the 747s they have.

By the way, are those GE or RR engines?

The new 777 in the modified TAAG livery is very attractive. Nevertheless I shed a tear because the two beautiful 747s will disappear. Any clue who´s taking them? They are still a bit too young to be retired.
