Boeing Reveals Steep 747-8 Option

Boeing is studying a 777-style electronic tailstrike protection system for the 747-8, which would enable steeper touchdown and take-off angles and help reduce noise during critical approach and departure phases. The electronic tailskid trade study forms a key element of Boeing's attempts to close the gap on QC1 noise limits at London, and the outcome is largely dependent on windtunnel tests being performed at Qinetiq's facility at Farnborough in the UK...


Interesting article about Boeing's efforts to achieve "noise reduction" to meet standards for London.

So the 747-8 is essentially now a 777 with 4 engines and a hump? lol

the drooped ailerons is an interesting thing-is it just the highspeed or both high and low speed? will the 747-8 even have two sets of ailerons? also i thought somewhere i read they were redesigning the flaps and dumping the triple slotted flap system in favor of a 777 style...

Ailerons are usually reflexed upwards to benefit at high speeds...
