I wish LNS luck in getting better service. It would be strange to have
LNS-EWR when MDT has no service to the NY City area.

Where is RegionsAir getting all these Saab's?

Quoting Aiportbusiness.com article:
passengers would get to fly in larger, more comfortable aircraft

Quoting Aiportbusiness.com article:
This service would use 30-seat SAAB 340A planes

I guess I'm spoiled living near EWR, you know the airport is small when a upgrade in service is 30 seat SAABs.

Hello???? What's up with that?
I have been saying for years, that MDT should have some kind of air service to NYC.

I hope CO does well there, just the same.

US Express use to fly Dash 8's on the MDT-LGA route. I actually did that run in reverse several times. I also use to fly CO to EWR from MDT on ATR's.

That's the rub. They don't have them. Nor do they have any codeshare agreement signed with Continental for Newark. What they do have is the ability to write EAS grant applications with lots of little asterisks.

As pointed out by A330323X in other threads on this subject, RegionsAir's EAS applications of late have been predicated on a number of assertions that either turn out to be flimsy or entirely untrue.

RegionsAir is asking way too much. ZV's gonna keep LNS.
USAir A321 service now departing for SFO with fuel stops in CAK, COS and RNO. Enjoy your flight.

The EAS bids at LNS are already being discussed here if anyone would like more information.

Funny, Continental had nothing to do with this "offer".  Silly

(I know that's just the title of the article.)

Now, now, let's be fair. Sometimes RegionsAir doesn't even include the fine print and just tells outright lies instead.  Silly

I wonder how they're doing with that BFD/JHW service they started last month...wait, what do you mean they haven't started it yet? I think I've seen this episode before.  Yeah sure

I have been saying for years, that MDT should have some kind of air service to NYC.

That would mean that you would have to drive 50 minutes out of your way for LNS-EWR service, as would someone from the close vicinity of Harrisburg (i.e. Middletown, Hershey, etc...)

The reason why LNS is getting such an offer is because of the reduced service at PIT... It even stated in the article that PIT doesn't have the connections it used to. Many of the routes have been dropped, including transatlantic service, and many of the mainline routes have been replaced with RJs.

If this starts up, I hope it's negative impacts on the LNS-PIT flights aren't too significant. That would be 3 more flights dropped from US' feeble yet sizable network at PIT, unless they'd add frequencies to MDT to PIT, hopefully using larger aircraft, but I don't think that will happen...

Where in the hell do these people of Lancaster want to fly to? Your not going to tell me that most of these people can't make connections in Pittsburgh just fine.

And it's a good place to connect through:

Good location, very nice terminal, not confusing...

I guess some of the pax might want to come into Lancaster from Latin America; Lancaster's latin population is skyrocketing. Then again... the thought of this is just rediculous...

Or...

Maybe some farmers want to go to some international farmers convention up in canada or over in Europe someplace...

Yeah... that's it. HAHA!!!

Really, it kinda sucks for both PIT and MDT, and as 777DadandJr said in his IM, it's a load of crap...

Another thing to add here... The article states that the loads on those PIT flights from LNS are below 60%. Given that the planes are 19 seaters, they only have 10 people on them?

Give... Me... A... BREAK!!!!

No, the reason is because the EAS contract is up for bid, and RegionsAir is bidding on every contract that comes up in the area.

As is fully explained in the other thread, it's a choice between RegionsAir and Air Midwest. RegionsAir will NOT be selected, but if they were, it would mean the end of the LNS-PIT flights.

Indeed!
Do you know how close LNS is to MDT?
It's probably a 15 minute drive up 283. When you are coming in to MDT on rwy 31, you can clearly see LNS from the plane! That's how close it is!

Quoting Steeler83 (Reply 9):

To add to that, being that MDT's loads have been around 71%, wouldn't it make sense to put those 10 people on a flight from MDT?

I still think a shuttle from MDT-EWR would work, given that the train still takes 3 hours from Harrisburg, to NYC. CO would just make sense.

Russ

PS: BTW, does anyone know why LNS gets the privilege of a "mouse-over" ident on A.net, but MDT does not????

It takes me 35 minutes to get from the Harrisburg-East exit off the turnpike to get to PA-741/US 30... I guess the 15 minutes is without traffic on PA-283...

Yes, the fields are close, 10-15 miles apart roughly. Again, when traffic is heavy, the times I have taken 283 it was, it's a slow drive. Then again, I was on that road around the evening rush. Go figure...

Quoting A330323X (Reply 10):

Then THANK GOD that RegionsAir isn't being selected...

Then those loads would be close to being full (>95%...)

Don't you have to be so far from a major airport to qualify for EAS?? I'm not sure what the mileage is , but LNS is only about 1.5-2 hours from PHL
