Taxiway Between LAX Runways 25?

Wed Jul 19, 2006 7:16 am

In the other thread guys are saying LAX runway 25L is shortly going to be closed and shifted-- 55-56 feet southward. They say this will allow a parallel taxiway between the runways.

At present, 25L and 25R centerlines are 745 ft apart. I'm surprised a major airport would be allowed to put a new taxiway between runways 800 ft apart. Anyone know of an airport with runways that close and a taxiway between?

(EWR runways 4/22 are 950 ft apart, but I can't think of any closer than that.)

I believe rwys 7/25 at PHX are also seperated by 800 feet. Taxiway Foxtrot is between the two runways.

High speed exit runway to taxiway separation is 600'. This shift allows high speed exits and a hold short of the inner runway. When you can't net 1,000 - 1,200' then you get a waiver. The minimum taxiway to runway separation for LAX is 400' based on the design handling aircraft. Most aircraft will actually cross the center taxiway during peak operational periods. At off peak times, they'll slow and use the new taxiway.

Sure nuff, PHX 7R and 7L centerlines are 800 ft apart-- so that's a precedent all right. While I was checking that I checked LAS too; runways 1 are 938 ft apart and the 7s are 1000 ft.
