Airlines Show Interest In The A350XWB

We've had the 'analysts' have their say, we've had Boeing executives had their say, here's what some of the airlines CEO's said...

EMIRATES

The planned Airbus jet "looks a good plane," Emirates Chairman Sheik Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum said at the air show, one of the biggest dates in the aeronautical industry calendar.

BRITISH AIRWAYS

British Airways CEO Willie Walsh said Tuesday that the airline is looking at the new A350 as well as the 787 and 777.

Great would love to see an Airbus wide-body in BA colors for once.
Fantastic would be a joint A380/A350 order by BA !!
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

I think a BA order for A380/A350 to replace the B767/B777 and the B744 is not unlikely now.

BA seems to be very happy with their A32x, so why not investing in Airbus longhaulers now WITH RR ENGINES !!!

I think you're being just a bit too optimistic here...

B767 - A350 could happen, so could the B787
B777 - replaced? What for? The fleet is way too young and performs very well
B747 - A380s as sole replacements won't happen, or at least I just cannot see it happening: it leaves too much of a capacity gap; even if BA were to replace the B777 with A350s (which I just really don't see happening), they'd still have a gap of more than 100 seats between their second largest and largest plane

As much as I'd like to see the A350 and A380 in, amongst others, BA colors, the possibility you're thinking of is about as likely as carriers that already have B787s on order now going back and cancelling their orders for A350s... I just don't see either one happening.

BA just a few months ago retook their options on 777 slots(originally from the late 1990's), which can be converted to 787's...BA would stand to lose money if they cancelled those....they will get a good deal from Boeing.....

I look to see BA going with a 787/747-8 combo with an A2XX combo...

In BA's seating configurations, what's the capacity difference between a 772 and 744 today?

I imagine a good deal of it will come down to when an airline needs a plane and some of that is going to be driven by what their competition if flying. The 787-9 is still going to EIS years before the A350-800 and Boeing should be able to beat the A350-900 to market by 18-24 months with the 787-10 if sufficient interest is there. And that EIS advantage is going to translate into financial advantage to their airlines that have the 787 (and 777) vs. others who have A330s (and A340s).

But in the positive, the A350 does provide a solid, capable upgrade path for those carriers who are predominately Airbus operators.

BA B777-200A = 219 seats (4 Class)

BA B777-200IGW = 224 seats (4 Class)

BA B777-200ER = 220 seats (4 Class) or 274 seats (3 Class)

BA B747-400 = 351 seats (4 Class)

Hmmm, if i remember correctly the both will have an EIS of 2012...
