Is This A Real Video?

Thu Jul 20, 2006 8:51 am

At Princess Juliana Airport in St. Maarten the runway is very close to the beach. Watch as this jumbo jet blows beach goers away. Litterally!
Or is it a fake video?

What makes you think it's fake....?? I guess you've never seen just how strong jet blast can be.

I guess I hadn´t seen how strong it can be. So, innocent bystanders on the beach could get really hurt during a take off roll, amazing!!

It's very real. If you go to www.flightlevel350.com and search for SXM you can see other videos featuring the same effect. It's actually a tourist attraction in St Maarten, some people go there just to get jet blasted! Big grin

LOL - there are no innocent bystanders on that beach - that's got to be one of the choicest spotting locations in the world.

Being jetblasted is not fun at all. Two days ago a 76 transitioning too early from KK to K blasted the hell outta me and everyone on gates 5 and 6 and I got sand all in my eyes and mouth and that was only power up for taxi speed so imagine take off.

A while back I found a video of a 747 (I don't know how much thrust it was producing) parked near a cliff. A push back cart (I think) drove behind it and was blown off the cliff- don't know what happened next. Anyone know where to find that video?
Anyway, it shows how powerful a 747 can be- very impressive.
(wow... 4 sentences in a row that start with an A...)

But I didn't know that a 747 was that powerful!!

Here's another vid to demonstrate the power of the 744's jet blast.

They aren't being blown away; they are running for the water because they are getting sandblasted.

If you want to ridw the fence, stay at the fence, not accross the road where you will get peppered by the sand.

I noticed on the guard rail between the road and the fence, there are placards to stay away from the fence.

Having been on the beach recently, I will attest to the jet blast, I got "sand blasted" by a BWIA 737-800 and it hurt like a B*tch! and that was a 737! You wont find me getting sand blasted by anything larger then a 757 there, holding the fence ...maybe... sandblast no.

On another note.... If you are feeling TRULY sorry for yourself you can get a bad sunburn THEN get sandblasted!
Experience is what you get when what you thought would work out didn't!

The only problem with that video is that truck was completely gutted. No engine, no trans, no interior. Granted the result would probably be similar with a fully loaded car, but that truck probably weighed less than 1,000 lbs.

Pretty much. Anyone who's been spotting at SDU has seen this sign, which was placed there after a taxi cab that was going to the naval school behind SDU got blown into the water by a 737 that was landing. The road to the naval school passes a few metres behind the threshold for 02L and through the "piano keys" for 02R .

Although I can´t say from experience, but standing (vice-gripping yourself to that fence) at the fence when a heavy is taking off must be an INCREDIBLE RUSH. One must be out of breathe and smell like jet fuel after being BLASTED.

Let me ask you guys a stupid question, is is worth it? Apart from experiencing this, obviously it must be dangerous (I´d do in a heartbeat), who has experienced it and would NOT do it again?

cheers
