Quoting RAFVC10 (Reply 1):

- Boeing 747-122 (N4703U) operated by Kalitta Air.
- Boeing 747-212 (N730PA) operated by Evergreen International.
- Boeing 747-123 (N9670) operated by Polar Air Cargo

I searched Airlinerlist.com and I also found (adding to the above)
N681UP UPS (ex N771PA)
N683UP UPS (ex N658PA)
N677UP UPS (ex N901PA)
N471EV Evergreen (ex N535PA)
N479EV Evergreen (ex N725PA)
N480EV Evergreen (ex N653PA)
N481EV Evergreen (ex N902PA)
N482EV Evergreen (ex N729PA)
N485EV Evergreen (ex N728PA)
N486EV Evergreen (ex N730PA)
3D-NEV Northeast AL (ex N724PA)
VP-BAT Qatar Government (ex N539PA)
A9C-HMH Bahrein Government (ex N540PA)
JA8165 JAL Cargo (ex N904PA)
JA8160 JAL Cargo (ex N905PA)

so actually the survival rate isn't that bad. But unless you try to get on a sketchy hadj flight with Northeast it will probably be impossible to get a ride on an ex Pan Am 747.

From the 747 production list at http://www.airlinerlist.com this is the disposition of all the 747s operated by Pan Am, listed by line number. I have also included the construction number, the registration it held with Pan Am, and the earliest and latest photos currently in the database. I have bolded those that are still in service.

First, the 747-121s taken by Pan Am:

l/n 1 – c/n 20235 – N7470 – 747 Prototype, never served with Pan Am. Reported on display at the Museum of Flight.

VirginFlyer,
Thankrnyou so much for all of the memories. I had a chance to work on each andrnevery one of those aircraft. Brings back a lot of memories. The lastrnPan Am 74 I worked was N737PA enroute via MIA for catering equipmentrnbound for Kano and the Nigerian HAJ. They lost an engine ferrying intornMIA and then had to 3 engine ferry back to the west coast for an enginernchange. They showed up again 3 days later. Better late than never.rnSeveral ex Pan Am F/A's went with the aircraft to Nigeria and when Irnsaw them a few months later said those flights were a nightmare.rnBetween sitting on the ramp for up to 2 full days while they tried tornroust enough passengers to fill up the aircraft to horrendousrnmechanical delays.

Again, thanks so much.

Rgds,
Ed

Very Impressive work VirginFlyer! Even the great well know documented losses (or write-off's) in the Canary Islands back in 1977 and Lockerbie, Scotland back in 1988 were included.
I'm sure there are many that wish the ghost of PanAm would come back and reincarnate in another carrier even by name. I think Steven Spielberg's 2002 movie "Catch Me If You Can" (starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks) helped spur this nostalgia on more than anything in recent years.

Wow, thanks for posting that VirginFlyer!

Are all of KalittaAir's 747s ex-Pan Am? I wonder now because I see them often at JFK....

Did UA get the Pan AM aircraft when they bought the routes? Or did they come after Pan AM ceased?

UA got the SPs (together with the L1011-500s) in 1985 with the Pacific route purchase.

VirginFlyer,
I must echo the others on your very impressive work. Thanks for bringing back those bittersweet memories...remember flying on many of those birds, eagerly recording every Clipper name in my log book when I was a kid...Thanks again..

I agree, great list there V/F!!!

I guess i've seen a few of those ex PA 747's at AKL in the past operating for Freight carriers, PO and EZ mainly. I used to love watching them take off, even going to MEL these things would use up a fair bit of runway and climb out slowly!

VirginFlyer, I know that must have taken some time to put together.
I always enjoy reading and seeing pictures of the B747.

It was awsome !!!!!

Great job VirginFlyer, quite thorough. To update things, N617FF did a test flight on June 14th, 2006 at MZJ and was seen with APU running on the 19th while I was there. All white and supposed to re-enter service with Logistic Air.

Are you sure that 21023 is still stored.

It's condition in 1998 looked terminal.
