Ohh No Not A AA 727

How nice is it that American will fly me out for free just to take a physical.Only thing is its on the one a/c that I hate in American's fleet the 727 the return later that day will be on a MD-11 so that will be cool.The reason why I do not like AA's 727's is because they really show there age,the livery is often very faded and something about the a/c that does not appeal to me.

Well, they aren't asking you to live with it! Just take the flight and get it over with. Or... pay $250 dollars.

I recently flew an AA 727-200 from DFW to IAH and it was perfectly decent, at least as nice as the MD-80 I rode the other direction, It had the newer seats with the leather headrests and new carpet. The only giveaway is the galley and the places where they still have that fake wood paneling on the bulkheads. Otherwise she was in fine shape.

The MD-11 however is outer space technology in comparison!

If with your position at AA you don't like that plane I kan Just wish you a pleasant return on MD-11.

Quit the complaining,
three engines and three pilots is the perfect scenario for a safe flight; enjoy it as much as you can because these beautiful birds are not going to be around us too much longer....

Another reason is I see so many of them in Miami and I am sure there are some that are wll kept and not quite as old but you really do see some out there that are ready for the a/c grave yard.Thank god for the 738

Excuse me!!! Did I hear you say you hate the 727? Well, in American's fleet that's understandable, but in the right livery it is an awesome looking plane. Besides, the 727 is the only Boeing jet that doesn't fit the Boeing mold (it has tail mounted engines, etc.).
Aviation is proof that, given the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.

So, why NOT a 727? These sturdy jets have formed the backbone of the US transcontinental fleet for 30 years and continue to give excellent service. Yes, they are not as new or as high-tech as the MD-11, 777 or A340 but they perform their jobs well. I certainly like flying in 727s; despite their 3 engines they are quieter inside than MD80s. They are also very comfortable and smooth. Alas, even mild turbulence makes them somewhat choppy. The lack of inflight entertainment is also a minus (UA is the exception).

So, I say, take the 727 and tell us how it was.

I have got to echo Boeing727's statement. Enjoy these " classics" while you can. In five years when there are no more passenger 27s around people will be thinking back fondly on Boeing's tri jet, somewhat like we now do on the 707 and have started to about L1011's and DC-10's.

If I were you I'd be looking at maybe picking up a small memento of what could possibly be your last ride on a 727.

It will also provide you with a great opportunity to once again experience the difference that 30 years in tecnological advancement has brought to the aviation world. ( 727 vs MD11 )

I'd Take Your Place On A 727!

Over here in the land Down Under all our pax B727's have been phased out of service. It's only when they have gone that one really misses them, well I do!
There was nothing quite like sitting in the forward part of the plane at take off and listening hard for the sound of the engines. Magnificent silence (well compared with the B733s and B734s in which I now travel it was!)
Australian Airlines' colour scheme looked great on the old three holer.
If nothing more Doug you've given me an enjoyable time reminiscing just now. Enjoy your flight for me!

Just be happy you are flying at all.
And on the subject of the 727, so what if they are more than a few years old, they'll still get you where you are going, and for free.
The last time I flew was on a DL 727 YYC-SLC and back(January '98, before it was taken over by Skywest)and it was a very pleasent experiance as far as the plane is concerned(I won't start on the service)
The bottem line is you get to fly and someone else is paying for it.
Not such a bad deal.

I recently flew to Las Vegas aboard an ATA 727-200. It was a nice flight, and to be honest, I miss flying in 727s. The flight was a great experience - I love the whine of the 727's PWJT8Ds on approach as the crew powers back, and the roar of the engines on reverse. And they are so quiet at cruise, because of their tail-mounted engines. Too bad the old '27 won't be in airline service much longer...but progress is necessary.

I am greatful that I am flying for free.If in anyway this is constrewed as whining or complaining I apologize for sending that type of impression.Maybe I should rephrase the theme of the post by saying American needs to better maintain the physical appearance of the 727's.A lot of the tails has the AA emblem fading and some of them just look like they can use a make over.I do not have a problem with the 727 and I am thankful to fly for free.

It's curious how there are many different points of view for a particular thing. If I were you, I would be glad I'm flying in the 727. It's one of the best airliners ever built. That's a fact. Every pilot I know who has flown the 727 likes it a lot and says it is an aircraft very enjoyable to fly. You'll be flying in a classic. Enjoy it.

Doug, I can't beleive you don't like the 727. I would be very happy flying on a 727 because they are being phased out and they will all be gone in five years from now. What I mean is that if you have the chance to fly on a 727 DO IT, I keep telling you DO IT, because it may be your last chance in your life that you fly on one. I always try to get a 727 when I book my trips. The 727 will soon be gone, other aircrafts such as the MD-80 or the 757 will be around longer. That's my opinion.
