Questions About Icelandair's Fleet

Sun Jul 23, 2006 12:10 am

I have basically 2 questions:

1) Last June I travelled on Icelandair for the trip BWI-KEF-CDG (the plane happened to be TF-FIJ on both legs). At KEF I noticed that most 757s had winglets installed, except for TF-FIR (I think, and which is a 752) and TF-FIX (a 753). Does anyone know if/when these two A/C will have winglets retrofitted?

2) I read somewhere that Icelandair ordered 2 787s, I think they are -800s, to be delivered in 2010. Does anyone know what routes these planes will serve- existing or new? Will they replace some 757s? Any chance of seeing one at BWI?

I doubt that you will see a 787 at BWI. I think that they will use their first 787 on the SFO route because they are currently using a leased 767 I believe. They might try to open another route with the other 787 but I don't see them replacing a 757 becuase they have done fine on the routes they are on.

I was at LHR 2 or 3 months back and i saw B757 TF-FIR in same livery as B767 TF-FIB in that it has a white belly but otherwise full Icelandair livery including gold colour painted engine cowlings. I previously saw this aircraft at LHR a few months earlier in all white livery with just the reg TF-FIR on the fuselage. When i saw TF-FIR again in April or May this year i was surprised to see that it had winglets installed, as i was not expecting to see this B757 with winglets as i thought this aircraft was only being leased for a short period.
As for the B757-300 TF-FIX being fitted with winglets, i believe the winglet option is not available on the B757-300 at the moment but this i think is being worked on.
Its a pity that Icelandair cancelled the order for the 2nd B757-300, and only operate the single airframe, which mainly operates to LHR and CPH.
Did Icelandair plan to operate the 2 B757-300s to the states when they ordered the 2 airframes originally?

I am flying Icelandair in two weeks JFK-KEF-LHR-KEF-JFK using the 757 and 767.
The itinery only says "757 Jet" on all legs operated by 75's, however LHR-KEF, is this usually operated on a 753? or 752 lately?

GAIsweetGAI, how did you find the airline to travel with?

At MCO we see the 757 5x a week. It varies mth to mth for the days we see it on. I would love to do BWI-KEF-LHR when I get financially stable. I have always been a fan of Icelandair. Good luck and I'm looking forward to a trip report if you decide to do one.

LHR have 2 flights daily LHR-KEF, with the lunchtime LHR dep FI451 being operated by a mix of B752/B763, while the evening dep FI455 normally being operated by the B753.

In amadeus.net i believe in Icelandair case
757= B757-300
752= B757-200

I hope this information helps

I just followed my mom and stepped in the plane...
When I was younger we used to do BWI-KEF-LUX and then take the train down to Lyon to visit my grandparents, that was to avoid going through CDG. Now that they've stopped going through LUX I've been going through CDG, but I recently found that there are OSL-MPL flights- that would help me avoid going through CDG.

Advantages with travelling on Icelandair between the US and Europe:
a stopover to relax, stretch those legs...
it goes where I want to go, mainly OSL and CDG
service is great (BTW the meal was actually good- for airline food)

and that's why I haven't changed airlines... yet

BTW it's TF-FIK that doesn't have winglets, not TF-FIR. Sorry.
