EasyJet Excess Weight Luggage Question

Sun Jul 23, 2006 10:29 pm

I was wondering whether someone "in the know" would be able to help and clarify something for me.
Tomorrow I will be flying to Krakow from Berlin with easyJet.
The hold luggage maximum allowable limit is 20kg. I'll have about 36kg or so - as I've been working in Berlin for a few months and I'm packing and going "home" for a while.

Anyway, according to the easyJet site. I can pay 22.50EUR and increase my allowable limit to 32kg. After that it's 7.50EUR per kilo.

However, when I called easyJet UK they're automated voice service states that it's 5 pounds per kilo for anything over 20kilos.

So what's the story? Is it pay-per-kilo for anything over 20kg or is it pay-per-kilo ovre 32kg after paying the 22.50EUR to increase the hold baggage to 32kgs?

Wonder if I should have rented a car instead and drove it to Krakow.

Incidentally, does anyone know whether I could have just bought 2 tickets for 10EUR each and increased my luggage limit to 40Kilos? Is it possible to buy 2 tickets in my own name with easyJet?

Thanks,
-Milan320

Heya,

From past experiance, i turned up at the airport about 7 kilos overweight and all i done was went to Check-In as normal and they gave me a little recipt/token that i was to take to the easyJet desk and pay for the excess.

On the matter of buying 2 tickets, i think they would frown upon it as they may not realise that you were the owner of the other ticket and would be calling for that passenger to board. Although that may not be a big issue if you received two boarding passes and handed both over.

Thanks
Mike

Why don't you just check one 20kg's bag and take the remaining 16kg with you as hand luggage as they no longer have weight restriction on hand luggage !!!

I wish I could do that, but that would mean leaving my laptop and everything else behind  Wink.
Besides, the stuff I've got that weighs 16kilos would never fit in a carry-on.

Doesn't matter. I figure I'll have to pay about 150EUR in excess fees as a result. I guess that's what you get for buying a 27EUR ticket.
