Delta Boarding Procedure - Have They Changed It?

Mon Jul 24, 2006 6:01 am

A while back there was a rumor that DL would be slightly changing the Zone boarding process from the original Zone assignments to a Window->Middle->Aisle system.

Does anyone know if this has infact happened?

It did. Back in Feb.

Basically window-aisle, rear-forward.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Really? I've flown over three dozen times on Delta in the past 3 months and have never experienced this. Are they testing it on certain flights?

A couple of questions (from curiosity I guess) since I haven't been affected by this (all Zone 1/2)...

Is it still broken down back/front/back/front/back/front or is it more of an inverted triangle now?

Does this apply only to mainline, or is DL Connection going the WilMA road as well?

I haven't noticed it either, but I never board beyond Zone 2...

It wasn't supposed to be noticed by passengers. However if you 29D on a M88 and your seat mate has 29E. You will notice they are zone 4 while you are zone 5.

Inverted triangle is good. Kind of like short V's and U's down the plane.

It is on all aircraft, but DCI is just for the sake of consistency. I mean how much faster can you board a 50 seat airplane.

Don't like the exit rows then? You must book your seat well in advance to always be in the front of the coach cabin (or zone 1 obviously).

The question wasn't whether zone boarding exists, it was just how the zones are assigned based on seating.

I flew them back during Spring Break and did not notice window boarding before aisle. I had a window seat and boarded with pretty much everyone else. But then again it might have been the case I wasn't payin exact attention. I am supposed to fly them in less than a month so I'll watch out for it.

Umm NO! I havn't been in coach on Delta (mainline) since January. I'm a Medallion member and usually get upgraded to F (which is ZONE 1), or if I do sit in coach, whether I sit in the first row of coach, the last or the exit rows, I always board Zone 2.

My parents didnt last week in MLB,LAS nor ATL. I'm surprised though. They sat together, and had the same zones.

Well Zone 2 is the front half of coach and Zone 3 is the back half of coach for medallion flyers. It is necessary to break down medallion preboarding because of the sheer number on certain flights. Many stations do board zones 2 and 3 at the same time, but there is a separation based on location of the plane.

If you are in the same reservation you are going to have the same zone. If your 29A and 29B on a M88 you will have zone 4. If your 29B and 29C you will have zone 5. If they were in different reservations then 29A would have zone 4 and 29B would have zone 5. This way the window boards before the middle or aisle seat.

Seems that many of the flights I'm on get the exit rows taken first. I've booked another 20 or so DL flights this year (still have 2 trips to BOS, 1 trip to LGA and 1 trip to STL to book) and the only flights I'm in exit rows are CRJs and a pair of 767-300s to/from SEA (can't beat 27A/G...most legroom of any seat on the plane). With most of my hops though being >90 minutes, I'll gladly take a seat in Rows 11-13 or so and be the amongst the first off...on a tight connection in ATL on a full M80 and sitting in 25E can mean me making like an Olympic runner, except the 100,000 fans at the stadium are the 100,000 fellow Delta customers I'm trying to dodge as I run to my gate.
