Does MEM really need A380 upgrades? ATL is the seventh busiest airport for international traffic, MEM is not even on the top 15. ATL does not plan to upgrade to support the A380.

Quote:-
"For competitive reasons -- cities, including Orlando -- are so eager to get the A380s, they are making the upgrades even though they don't have anyone planning to fly the planes there, Marchi said.

"It's seen as mark of distinction to have the A380," Marchi said."

Interesting comment - which sort of flies in the face of current A-net wisdom  Smile .

Is "a.net wisdom" sort of like "military intelligence?"
And all at once the crowd begins to sing: Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

2 words: Fed Ex

Just found this article interesting:
For competitive reasons -- cities, including Orlando -- are so eager to get the A380s, they are making the upgrades even though they don't have anyone planning to fly the planes there, Marchi said.

"It's seen as mark of distinction to have the A380," Marchi said.

Umm, I take it they are under the impression "If we build it, the A380 will come".....
