Turkish Flight 2 @ LHR 24 July

Tue Jul 25, 2006 7:59 am

I saw a Turkish A340 climbing out of LHR runway 09R this morning around 9.30 and noticed it had the latest Turkish livery like the new A330s. I went to tune my radio to the Clacton departure control to get the flight number so that i could tie up the registration later on a Acars/Sbs-1 website.
I thought it was late to be theTurkish flight 1982 flight, which is the normal early morning departure.
When i heard Turkish 2 i knew straight away it was a diversion as this flight normally operates between JFK and IST. I managed to tie up the reg on the Turkish flight 1 on the 23rd which was TC-JDM, with Turkish 2 ex JFK on the 23rd almost certainly the same aircraft that was at LHR 24th. TC-JDM being the first Turkish A340 i have seen in the latest A330 style livery with the noticable leaf or what ever it is at the rear fuselage.

A very nice spotting. That noticeable leaf is actually a tulip, just like the one on A330 below. I have heard the A340s were going to get refurbished starting this month, so this could be the first one. Maybe someone else can confirm this, and if they got new interiors also?

So anyone can confirm TC-JDM is in new livery now with new seating configuration and IFE?

Thanks / N503JB

It might have been a fuel stop, as I noticed it over me near MUC on TK2 and he was only at 21000 ft. Maybe a problem with a Pack system or an engine, preventing normal cruise altitude, and therefore greater fuel burn.

Nice spotting!
Like some mentioned here TK 340's were getting refurbished and I'm sure with the interior upgrade they would apply the new C/S to the ac also.

Thanks for the info, but can you contribute a little more if possible as far as the C/S goes and the status of TK340's upgrade process?
