These are reasonable. For IAH-GIG DC10. I'm not sure about the 777 on this route.

CO already flies twice daily to CDG, so no increase there.

Vienna and Barcelona would be unprofitable. CPH and ARN are a
maybe. EZE route is pending approval. JNB?? Probably not. HKG,
only if more 777's are ordered.

CLE routes sound reasonable.

IAH, I agree with all, except Manchester. AA tried this from DFW
and load factors were very poor. Route dropped after just one
year. If AA couldn't fill a 767 from DFW to MAN with 750 daily
flights, what makes you think CO can from IAH with 520 daily
flights?

IAH-GIG, yes, with a 767-200 when it comes on line. Not a 777.

I think they should start one out of EWR to STR.
Actually I don't care what American airline is gonna start flights to STR but I think some airline should do it.
As already mentioned in my post for TWA flights, DL had about 75 % on a daily B767-300er flight from STR-JFK.

EWR-
Theres a reason they suspended SCL

I think that VIE would be profitable, with only a few daily flights to Austria nonstop from the US, this popular American tourist destination could use another flt w/ an American carrier(When I went to VIE, it was PACKED with Americans, yet I couldn't help but wonder how they got there)

JNB/HKG, I'd say these could work out, but only w/ a 777

CLE-
DUB could probably be daily if it went CLE-SNN-DUB-CLE

Maybe CDG, but only w/ a 762

IAH-
I actually think that MAN could work, the reason AA failed in this market was because they started out too strong(MD-11 and a 767 on the ORD, 763 on JFK and DFW) CO started out with a DC-10 EWR, and soon upgraded to a 777. I think theres room for a 762 from IAH

Is there really a large Jewish pop in the Midwest?

I agree w/ GUM, pax could connect to Japan and the South Pacific

I dont know about BRU/ZRH, how about MAD or FCO instead?

How about rounding 6/GRU up to daily?

Interesting routing to HKG: my first impression would be to say no way because of time, but think of the stopover potential

I'm all for any competition by a US airliine to South Africa!

I would love to see Continental start service between either JFK or EWR and ATH. They would be in competition with Delta on this route. Also, I would like Continental Express replace their ATRs on the EWR to ALB route with commuter jets.

Why are you focusing on CO's future plan to outside of USA? I think CO should focus on growth within USA....start point to point cities, a hub out in West and Southeast

And/Or start a new "Cal Lite" version with all RJ (small and large RJs).

They don't need a Southwest hub. They have extensive service from Houston
to that part of the country and code-share with America West Airlines.

One Continental Lite was enough. It almost killed CAL. We don't need yet
another Southwest clone.

Point to point service is not in their growth plans, largely due to the need
to grow their "underdeveloped" hubs, according to mgmt.

Tedski, CAL probably won't start Athens until they get a 767-400ER. The
new widebodies will be used to replace DC10's and expand long-haul out
of Houston. If they do start an ATH flight, it would be out of EWR and I
imagine, seasonal.

Continental should start flying Newark-Oslo. SAS is the only airline that flies from Norway to the US at the moment. Norway is a very popular holiday destination and it also has a very strong economy. I think that the 767-200 would be perfect for this route.

How about more international flights out of LAX:

LAX to Tokyo, Tel Aviv, London and Paris. Using 777 or 767's

I love CO, but I wouldn't stop over in EWR or IAH to fly to any of these places. I guess the competition is to fierce out of LAX to Tokyo and even London, but Tel Aviv? Only El Al flys non stop...could a 777 make it?

Didn't they have Headquarters and a small hub at LAX in the 70s and 80s. I wish they would do it again.

Anyway, experts please let me know.

RE: LAX Hub

Yes, they had their headquarters at LAX but not really a hub. They did operate flights to San Jose, Seattle, Denver, Houston, San Antonio, New Orleans, Tampa, Hawaii (of course) and I think Fiji. I wouldn't really have considered it a hub though.

IAH-Maracaibo 1 737-700 thrice weekly,
IAH-Rome 1 767-400,
IAH-Frankfurt 1 767-400,
IAH-Madrid 1 767-200,

Oslo

I agree with "SVG". CO shouldn't have problems getting passengers for å route to Oslo, Norway.

According to their HQ, Oslo is considered one of the hotest new destination for Continental in Europe.

Houston (IAH) <> Montréal/Dorval (YUL). Many rumors since many years ago but we still can't see the color of it.

Everyone seems to have forgotten the fact that when 'Wings' was a reality - before the KL/AZ split and the possibility of a BA/QF/MH linkup - Malaysia Airlines had been coaxing CO to code-share on its 777 EWR-DXB-KUL which would have given CO fantastic penetration into Southeast Asia from Northeast USA. CO and MH had the potential to make this service a daily occurrence and provide feeder services at either end....this market being largely untapped with only SIA being a direct competitor....what a miss by CO!

From the West Coast, MH and NW had just about got their code-sharing act in order - before 'Wings' crumbled :-(

...and BA/QF/CX/AA are now courting MAS into their gang...which may become reality very soon. CO really lost out here...I think.
