Beirut Airport - Condoleeza Rice

Tue Jul 25, 2006 11:19 am

I am wondering what is the status of Beirut Airport. I was under the impression it was still unusable. However, I note that Condoleeza Rice
flew to BEY on her way to Israel, so she must have landed somewhere?

Anyone have any details on Ms Rice's flight?

She landed in Cyprus and took a helicopter over to Beirut.

I've heard reports of opening up the airport to bring in aid by air? Can anyone confirm? Would some of the damage on one runway at least have to be repaired prior to this?

Looks like it may happen.

From this morning's NYTimes:

"After meeting with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Israel agreed today to allow relief flights to use Beirut International Airport. "
