CO's CLE-JAX RJ Schedule

Tue Jul 25, 2006 11:53 pm

Oct 1 CO starts a daily CLE-JAX round trip and then in the January schedule change the flights go away. Is this a result of the XJT reduction or is it missing because Chautauqua can't commit to specific schedules yet?

CLE-JAX has long had enough O&D traffic to support at least one non-stop, but it seems odd to start the route in a relatively slow period of the year and then kill it 3 months later.

COEX used to fly this route until a few months ago then dropped it. I guess it's only back for the Christmas season.

CLE-JAX is a very strange route, sometimes it operates daily, sometimes Saturdays only. Sometimes not at all. This should be a daily year-round route, but it isnt.

Could be wrong, but it seems there's a few on/off CO CLE routes that might be operated on a more consistent basis and it seems they're filled only when spare equipment is available.

IMO, they are going to need to do this and upgrade some equipment if CommutAir gets a larger turboprop. Hard to fill the turboprop routes if there are no seats to be had in the first place. I hope we'll start seeing an increase in capacity from CLE on routes so the feeder routes can fill the increase in capacity.

SAN for one? I don't know why that one comes and goes so much. Yields aren't great on SAN routes, but they're better than on LAS routes.

SAN, like SEA, seems to depend a lot on cruise ship passengers to be successful. Given the many starts and stops for this route, I suppose that there is not enough traffic OR they are fine with leveraging the AA connection at LAX. I took this route a couple months ago and it was not all that bad.

LAS makes up for low yields with high loads. I have never been on a flight to LAS that is not completely packed!

Last year, CLE-SAN O&D was 207 daily pax in Q1, 240 in Q2, 199 in Q3, and 222 in Q4. That is greater than CLE-SEA, which at least gets seasonal service. I can only figure the lack of a flight is because of the WN-driven yields in SAN and the guess that CO's SAN operation is too small for additional flights without manning up another gate.

Does anyone know how well DL is going with SLC? I know they upgraded equipment to mainline. I think SLC would do well for CO, espescially in ski season.

When we had still had CLE-SAN year round, I bet the load factor was in the high 80%. It was supposed to return this summer but didnt due to lack of aircraft. CLE-SLC also did very well,I can tell you I see ALOT of bags transferring to DL off CO flights. I think once the ramp construction is done, CLE will see more flights, right now 5 gates are closed C-7,9,11,14,16.

I think your right, and hopefully at least regarding the consistency of flights. CLE-ABQ, a seasonal only, Saturday only, supposedly very good load factor flight is gone already this summer if it was operated at all from what I understand. Don't know how much that flight interfered with the limited space issue, especially on a Saturday. In another thread, it indicates that UA utilization of gates at ORD is around 9+ daily, I wonder what CO at CLE is.

Well with only 8 arrival banks per day I'd doubt that it's more than 9 but with the ramp construction you never know.

when is ramp construction supposed to be complete? Seems like there are a lot more gates to go. I have to say I travel a lot and I can't every remember any other airport closing down every single gate in a terminal over 3 or 4 years. . .. CLe makes me wonder sometimes.

AUS is hot and humid most of the time... I've noticed the CRJ-200s take a bit of the runway and I've noticed that the Delta 737-200 taking off 17L takes up all of the runway and it tends to accelerate and nose up at the 2,000ft left marker and lift off 500ft from the end of the runway... Seems a bit dangerous to me...
