Lets see if it actually gets done by 2010. Its a ridiculous project with lots of money interests for the people involved. Mking a new airport IS NOT A SOLUTION! ITs a shame theyre doing it. And also, its a shame how many scandals there have been regarding illegal transactions and money "disapearings" and its weird how all the constructing companies are owned or managed by relatives of the mayor..... etc etc. Any way.

That airport will be horrible, and as bad as the currernt one, but with better RWY. You can see how current quito airport is the worst thing ever made. Everything is improvised, abd orgainez, improvised waiting areas, improvised parking positions, improvised all! Structurally horrible!! The only nice thing is the landscape and all its sorroundings making it a nice airport (And some spotting places)

Also, they keep on postponing the grand opening. 2007, then 2008, then august 2008, then december 2008, then 2009, the august 2009, the 2010... Ahh gotta love them...

PROGRESS IN 3 YEARS!! WOWO!!!!!! :O

Just look at Guayaquils terminal, (One of the best in SOUTH AMERICA). Inagurtaing tomorrow and its one of the best things ever made in ECUADOR and 1/3 of the budget UIO used to do a remodeling of the airport which looks 1/8 as good. Guayaquils terminal is great! Its amazing!! I wish I could live there, makes you wanna be there, but UIO, doesnt. And from what ive seen of the new airport plans, etc, with the current mayor and all the people in it.... no thankyou.

Last, was this shot in any CORPAQ PAGE? or did you put them in the imageshack?

It didn't look like it was any bigger capacity-wise than the current UIO. I thought that was bizarre.

I'd be surprised if that didn't happen.

but then again UIO has some security issues with the airport being inside the city and also, its impossible to expand it any further

it would cost LESS to expand, pay the people with properties in bot headrs of the RWYS, kick out the militarys in the gold field!!! its ridiculous!! WHO NEEDS A GOLF COURSE BESIDE THE RWY!?  Wow! (Specially if your not allowed to spot in it)

http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=264366
See that green area right beside the ILS house near the RWY!? WOW!! Whata a itnernational terminal that could be built there! Isntead of that crouded 5 jetway one thats depressing, on the other side....Why!!

http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=340475
The airfroce has more ramp than the whole QUIPORT..... and it snot a BASE, its just space the "TOOK" because it was an airport in Quito, and they had the "Right" to. (Air force ramp is bigger, it starts from the aprt the AEROGAL 727 is and down, and MUCH MORE)

http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=274733
All that to the right is FAE! Air force.

Corruption, thats it, Corruption and conflict of itnerests here in Ecuador, they want money and thats it

I'll miss the location as it couldn't be more convenient. Reminds me of my home airport BHM. However, the facilities do leave a lot to be desired - haven't seen the upgrades, can't comment on those.

This is indicative of a city driven by business vs a city driven by politics. Unfortunate but true. No different than the main bus terminals for these cities, Guyaquil's is much larger and nicer than Quito's.

Did they put in a new bar? The old one was way too small although it rarely got crowded as it wasn't the easiest thing to find.
Where are all of my respected members going?

I didn't realize Quito was even building a new airport. I knew there had been talk of a new airport, but the process seems to have moved beyond talk (I wish some of our new airports here in the US could do that!)

The current airport looks small, but I bet landing there is a real experience! I'll have to plan a trip to Quito before 2010, so I can see what Mariscal Sucre is like.

Aren't they also trying to address the safety issue, which I think is the bigger issue? Lots of people would have to move. It's near impossible given the multitudes living around the airport. It is even more difficult to move the mountains if that's an issue.

If what is being built is substandard, then that needs to be addressed. But one look at the location says that its time to move the airport elsewhere, rather than build a new one where it is.

Will the land where the airport currently is, be sold and used to pay for a portion of the new airport's cost?

The security issue is not a problem. You take the people out of the ceinity of the airprot. And thats it, you extend the RWY... In the new airprot, there are no laws regarding building your houses near the airport, just like what happened to UIO in past years. the airport was not built IN THE CITY, the city came to the airprot. SAME EXACT THING will happen with the new one. Also, its located in a valley where 80% of the year duting all mrning and afternoon there is fog, clouds and storms. Its the FOG factory of QUITO, Right in that same valley,(See pics linked below) also, for the approach there are moutnains blocking approach for BOTH RWYS!!! Also, there is notchance to even expand the RWY because tehre is a ditch at the end of both RWYS!! So, its useless. i swish you guys could see what all of the ecuadorian people see, its the most ridiiculous project ever!!  Sad Ahh man, I jsut hope it never gets built!

http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=424295

Regarding the FOG FACTORY, Look at that, see the clouds? There, right under there is where new UIO will be and, that valley is like that from 4AM till 8 AM, and from 7PM till 11PM every single day for 80% of the year..... dumb people (UIO managers etc)

http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=347306

Now look at that! Same thing, you see right over the wiper, of the windshield, a hill, no fog(Thats the "Valley" where UIO currently is). Now you see a bit overr that hill, CLOUDS! FOG! thats where UIO will be in 2010! great going. And I dont hing that the fog will move away to anther valley when UIO is there in 2010

MOVING THE PEOPLE to solve the problem IS THE ISSUE. Protests, lawsuits, NGO's, years and years and years of disputes. Which all cost a lot economically and politically.

If it moving to a fog factory, and flights will be affected... that's a reason not to move.
