3rd Runway At MUC-NIMBYs May Sue Airport

Bad news for the planned 3rd rwy at MUC: The neighboring villages and cities pulled out of the "neighborhood advisory committee" (Nachbarschaftsbeirat) where all involved parties discussed the matter. They say they will probably sue the airport.

These guys are just so stupid. First, they benefit from the airport, giving them jobs, then they extend the area of inhabited land close to the airport, to build houses there, and finally complain about the noise.

What do you think ?

I think those idiots should become part of the runway, could save the airport a few bucks for needing fewer landfill to have an even strip for the runway  devil .

...and soon they will fly into MUC on their way home and complain about the long holding patterns. Why are they suing? Don't they want to loose their land or are they averse to the noise?

I agree ! But let them be the rwy surface. Would definitely make for a soft landing. However, AF would have to wash its aircraft more frequently then !

BTW, MUC's traffic has grown by 8% in the first half of 2006, and longhaul by a nice 11%.

The same NIMBY problems exists all over Europe and the U.S. People buy houses near airports because it is near jobs and the land is cheap and then block any airport improvements because the noise reduced their property values. Most people purchased homes knowing that the airport was there and complain anyway.

Guess that most people had their houses there before MUC has been build up. You live there, they start building an airport, enlarge it every 20 years and you must accept the additional noise because "you profit".
I really doubt that all inhabitants of the neighboring villages work at MUC...
Nevertheless, I see that they surely use the airport to go to their holiday beaches...
And MUC neads a third runway!
Time to pay compensations...

I'm fed up with these IDIOTS!!!  Angry  Angry  Angry
The airport creates jobs, boosts the economy, tourism!!!
Where would any country be without an major hub / airstrip?  Confused
Completely isolated!!! The airport is there to stay so live with it!!!
I'm fed up with these residents expecting some peace & quiet when they go and purchase a property directly under the flight path of a major airport/hub!!!
I live next door to Kingsford Smith International & I work at the airport & I dont complain about the Rwy34L departures OR Rwy25 departures OR Rwy07 arrivals!!! I live with it!!!

These idiots and nimby guys would not make a very good sub-base material for a runway, LOL.

Considering all of the lawsuits that took place in the battle over BBI in Berlin, I would have been shocked if lawsuits against MUC expansion did not occur.

Lawsuits against airport exapansion, especially in Germany, are equivalent to asking if Germans like beer?! It's a national pastime.

Not really. Those cities and villages were significantly smaller when MUC was built. Only when house/appartment prices rose in Munich in the 90s, people moved out of the city. Most people still work there, though.

It's even worse in PRG. The Supreme Admin. Court just few days ago blocked the change in Prague's city plan, which effectivelly halts the contruction of PRG's 3rd runway. One thing is that the Prague city hall screwed up in certain aspects during proceeding for change in the city plan but on the pther hand it's amazing that these idiots first move close to the airport and 10 years later are so surprised the airport is expanding.

The whole region is prospering BECAUSE of the airport. Freising county has the lowest unemployment rate in Germany,

It is about time that legislation is passed that these lenghty law suits against new infrastructuire find an end. It should be possible to get this done, regardless if it is a runway or a road, in 5 - 8 years from planning to turn-key.
