SAN And TIJ?

It seems that the idea to share an airport with TJ is picking up steam. What are you guys, who are supporting kicking the military out of Miramar, going to do if this happens?

I believe this is just a pedestrian bridge to the terminal so we can get to all those great Mexican cities SAN (or Miramar for that matter) can only dream of having such as Chihuahua, Monterrey, Culiacan, Durango, Torreon, Leon/Bajio, Colima, Tepec, Morelia, Oaxaca, Puebla and so on. Hell, SAN does not even have flights to Guadalajara, Hermosillo or La Paz where we depend on TIJ.

Maybe with a better draw from the north, airlines such as TACA and COPA might become interested with flights from TIJ to GUA, SAL, SJO and PTY. Also, flights to LTO, SJD, MZT, PVR, ZIH and CUN could become a reality from TIJ if U.S. passengers have easier access.

I don't think you'll see runways or terminals on this side of the border.

Runways and gates, no. Terminals, yes. Otay Mountain to the east of Otay Mesa precludes runways north of the border. On the Mexican side of the border, however, there is a valley through aircraft fly to land at TIJ. The concept in the joint use proposal, I believe, is to have a terminal on the USA side of the border with a bridge to the gates on Mexican side. That would avoid us having to drive in the heavy traffic in Tijuana by automobile to get to Rodriguez which is literally just across the border. Keep Lindbergh and if any airline sees a market for long haul from San Diego, then they can operate out of TIJ which has a runway that is plenty long enough for fully loaded wide bodies.

Vote NO on Miramar. Vote Yes on Joint Use with Mexico.

I agree, a check-in terminal with baggage claim on the U.S side would be ideal although I can't really see why an airline would pay to have two check-in area's for one airport. What I was referring to and have my doubts on was where an actual apron would be built on the U.S side where aircraft would taxi over and unload onto U.S soil after using the TIJ runway.

I think it would a great improvement just to have a normal place to park your car and go through U.S customs quickly without dealing with the Otay Mesa or San Ysidro crossings. It would be even better if a spur of the trolley could terminate at the proposed crossing.
