A380 GP7200 Nacelles

Flight Farnborough: Show A380 heads... 25-7-06

This seems surprising that the nacelles aren't production standard at this stage. Is there some special fit up that prevented the design nacelles to be used. With the CADCAM of today I would think it would be ready with the engine. Does anyone have first hand experience with this.

Excerpt from the last paragraph:
"Flight tests on the first GP7200-powered A380 will not use production-standard nacelles. "Aircell still has quite a bit of work to do," adds Hughes. "

This is curious. Unfortunately, I know none of the details on the GP7200 nacelle. With UG, it should have been trivial... Since the first flight is very delayed...  scratchchin

Unfortunately, my rumor mill on both engines TSFC has shut down. So I can't even give insight into either (for now). Note: I'm a propulsion/Combustion engineer, so my rumor mill is usually pretty good... But its quiet right now.  Sad

Any comment of the FI report on A380 flight testing saying that the Trent TSFC was as good or better than guarantees? Was your rumor still functioning at that time?

OldAeroGuy,

I wish I had an answer for you on the Trent TSFC, but I don't.  Sad My rumor mill has completely shut down on the A380 engines.  Sad So honestly, your guess is as good as mine.  spin

But with SQ ordering more A380's... something said they would make money off of them at $70/bbl+.  Smile And SQ is going with the Trents... So I doubt the TSFC is horrible... But I am speculating.
