CO To Replace Website...

Wed Jul 26, 2006 5:09 pm

Here's a link to the new site from CO. It's just an image explaining the look.

http://www.continental.com/company/newhome.asp

Not sure if I like it. Busier. But it seems all the info is still in the right place, and since CO has one of the more functional sites around, glad they aren't messing that function up too much.

What do others think?

I can't really complain about the current one; in fact, I think it is one of the better airline websites out there. I'm not exactly sure why CO felt it was necessary to change it, but either way, I do think that the new website looks good.

For better or worse, they are updating the back office components of the site to .NET and increasing the usability with the legacy reservation systems and the like. In addition, they will be moving the servers from headquarters to an offsite secure data center.

I personally like the look of it and trust that we will gain functionality rather than lose it.

Looks like www.nwa.com copy... Put them side by side, see how the functional areas are located, what functional areas are there, and you'll know what I mean.

They haven't changed much, which is good.

Familiarity with a website always makes it friendlier to a person, and the good Lord knows I've used the Conti website a LOT. I don't see enough changed on the front page of the "new" Continental website to say it's a blatant copy of the NWA site. In fact, I can see something missing from the new Conti website that is present on both the old Conti site and NWA's site: check flight status. According to the tag on the new website, you can find that functionality by viewing your reservation. Looks like we'll have to use a separate page to check by flight number.

I'm admittedly biased, but I've always thought NWA's site was cluttered.

So they can stay on top of all other US carriers.

You are joking, right?

That NWA page doesn't look the same, and the CO site isn't drastically different than what it used to be. In other words, CO's site is copying ITSELF, not NWA. Further, CO's sites, old and new, have more funcitonality in the links at the top that NWA does. The center of the CO page, NW page, DL page, AA page, etc. all have roughly the same inputs.

check flight status

Still there. Look again. It's a tab next to print boarding pass. That little box will change to a flight status input if you click the tab.

I think they did the "print boarding pass" on the front page without having to sign in for people who might be accessing the page from a public internet portal who don't want to sign into a foreign browser.
